I bought my field manuals on CD from "Cheaper Than Dirt". The problem is that they are xeroxed pages on Acrobat. Some of the pictures are hard to see. This is a little information for everyone:
Winchester Super X .22 Ammo Wind Allowances at 3 and 9 O'clock.
100 yards
5 MPH-2.50 inches
10 MPH-5.0 inches
15 MPH-7.5 inches
20 MPH-10.00 inches

Got my targets today. 3000+ mile trip at gummint speed.
I notice the targets aren't signed. Were they supposed to be?
To: The KG9 Kid
I was suppose to number them, but I dont believe it matters since the targets arent widely available.

I went to the range also...but with the intention of shooting the match...Ha ! Was I ever over confident.
I wasn't real impressed with the results I was obtaining with my Krag carbine...I'm sure it's the user...I'm getting about a 10" group at 100...humbling in the least. I'll give it another shot though. It's really a unique firearm and up until Saturday I had put only 1 round through it the whole time I've owned it.
I was happy with the results from the 10/22 and had a similar come up when going to 100.

I recieved my targets today. I went to a gunshow over the weekend and bought some non-corrosive 180 gr 7.62 x 54's. I don't look forward to shooting 30 (+ practice rnds) of these, but I don't have any other centerfires with iron sights. I have no idea how I will perform in this match. I'm a handgun nut. I've never shot my 10/22 at 100 yds without a scope. Hell, my scope for the 10/22 is sighted for 50 yds. If there is a 12" drop between 50 & 100 yds, we'll have to mount our targets up a bit. I'm jazzed no matter how I do in this match.

I was actually thinking of stapling a sighting bull 12" above the real target.

I'll get out that way when I go to the Paris Match on the third Sunday. If I remember to go to the Paris Maxey Black Powder Rifle Club, you take 19/24 to Paris and get off at the outer loop to go North, Then get off at 79 and after a couple of miles[I forgot how many] the range is on the right. The trees of the range are pretty thick and there's a impact range sign. You have to take the road to the right to get to the entrance. The Match starts around 10. I usually get there around 9.

I'm going to put my 10/22 in a vise to see where it shoots at 100 yds, then I'll try to do something with my sights. If I can't, then I also may put another something 12" high to aim at.

Good luck with the shoot. I'm to be out of town for the next several days... and I'd like to slow down before I die, but I don't see the brake switch!

Just got back into town from three weeks on the road. So I guess I missed this match. I think I'll get some targets, follow the rules and shoot "unofficially" just to see how I do. Then I can compare my scores after the "official" match scores are posted.
I found the contraints of the pistol match very infomative and think the rifle match will be as well.
Course this means I need to find a rifle that works....

Man, I had to go to the local shop (I stay out of Wally World unless I'm dragged in by the heels) and drop thirty bucks on two boxes of PMC .303 British.
That's what I get for shooting a P14 in this match, I suppose. The shop had a Springfield 03-A3 on display, only $599... but I was a little strapped that day.

Yup, that's a little steep. I lucked out. We just had a gun show in town this last weekend. These meets are not cheap by the time you buy enough ammo and practice targets and make e few trips to practice. But....it's a lot of fun.

I've never done a match like this and I haven't even practised yet. I'd guess standing will be the toughest. Will there be much difference between kneeling vs. prone? What's the bar going to be set at by you good shooters? I can hold my own with handguns, which are my passion, but I generally don't shoot 100 yds without a scope.

I really don't want to talk about the type of score that we can expect in this match. I don't want to discourage anyone. Besides, this is a new match for me too without my match rifle.
A scope helps with magnification and with using a single aim point to the target. With a good cheek weld, some people can shoot just as well with or without a scope. Too many people forget that they have to pay just as much attention to the rear as to the front sight. I haven't knelt in a match in a long time. A sitting position is far superior.
We aren't using cuff slings but I don't use one for service rifle and I shoot better with my service than I do with the match rifle. Learn to use the sling. It's the most important accessory to the rifle. I would rather go into a match with old ball ammo and my sling than match ammo and no sling. There's probably something wrong with the match rifle that I haven't figured out yet.
I hope that this encourages people to find a High Power match. There's nothing like getting a government rifle through the mail from the CMP. A friend's mailman asked what was in the box and my friend said that it was a semi-automatic rifle. The mailman yelled at him that he couldn't send something like that through the mail and he couldn't do that. My friend smiled and said, " I didn't. You did". Today, they use FedEx.

I've read your sling posts and I am going to use one. I use them when hunting for the same purpose. I am most apprehensive about the standing shots. The range I belong to will be just fine for prone, as long as I have a mat (very flat and no tall grass or weeds).

Read the first four chapters of Jim Owen's book here:
http://www.jarheadtop.com
It will help your standing position. I forgot to mention. In High Power, slings aren't used in the standing postion. I don't know why, they just aren't. That's just a little tidbit of information. There's nothing in our rules that says you can't.
