Did you find the info. on your source for the L1A1s?

Yes, I pulled out my gunsmith's card and left it on the dresser where I would be sure to bring it to post the info to you.

Then I promptly forgot it....

I'll send it to you tomorrow.

OK Freeper postal shooters, one week from today your targets must be in the mail, postmarked by Tuesday, July 9th - as discussed.

To date I have only recieved one set of targets back, so for all of you who have been putting this off, the time has come.

Ready on the right, ready on the left, ready on the firing line...COMMENCE FIRING!

Just a reminder, please indicate the position(prone/sitting/standing), caliber, and your freeper name on each target.

Also help me out and score each target, I'll render final score, but it will help me find any errors I may make.

Lets keep our scores to ourselves till I post them here.

Lastly, feel free to fold the targets for the return trip if you can do so without damaging the bullet holes.
Regards, -C&B-

I believe that I am going to have a problem getting my targets back: The problem being that I didn't get a chance to shoot these last several weekends, and I'm not holding out much hope for this weekend.

I will certainly try.

I haven't been putting it off, I've just been more busy than Clinton at the Chicken Ranch, or if you prefer, more busy than Hillary at the YWCA.

Mailed mine yesterday, sorry for the delay.

Forgot to score but there are enough zeros on the .22 to make the addition easy ;).

I figured that shooting the course would be a good Fourth of July activity...

Ditto on the 4th of July activity, nothing more American than the sound of gunfire and the smell of cordite!

Amen to that!

Also, regarding the "smell of cordite", I noticed somthing interesting while at the range. In testing the two rimfire rifles that I was considering using, I tried an assortment of ammunition, including Aguila's "Super Maximum" hyper velocity stuff. With the lighter 30-grain bullet, I figured it might work well if there was no crosswind.

If you can find some, try it. At 100 yards, it's not appreciably more accurate than anything else, but at 50 yards it prints 4 inches higher than common high-velocity .22LR ammo. Interestingly, the powder smoke from the Aquila hyper-velocity load smells different than that of any other .22 ammo I've used. There are obviously some new powder formulations being tried in the rimfire market.

Good shooting to all who will be celebrating Independence Day with some FReeper gunfire!

Healing nicely, but very uncomfortably. I think I can make the shoot. I'm a handgun nut, so I'm probably not going to do real well with the long guns regardless the eye situ. I'm also going to have to shoot a 45-70 lever gun which is all I have left with iron sights. A .223 it ain't.

The website couldn't find you the first time because I forgot the "The" but I don't want you to feel left out.
Have a safe and happy American Independence Day.

I went out early while it was still cool and shot the centerfire portion this morning. I don't think that chookter has anything to worry about, I think that he beat me handily. (BTW, I shot at the same berm that we used on the 21st.)

Man alive, I had forgotten how much an M1 kicks when you are prone and not wearing a shooting jacket! My t-shirt didn't offer any padding at all, and with my body mass behind it my shoulder took a beating.

Hey, wait a minute. We don't want anyone to suffer. We just mentioned shooting jackets.
To all the other shooters who haven't shot the centerfire yet, toss a towel or rag over your shoulder and shoot the prone with that. We want everyone to enjoy this.

Targets scored (ugh!), folded up, and ready to go into a Priority Mail (registered trademark) envelope first thing tomorrow morning.

I won't win any prizes, but I did have fun. Thanks for organizing this event.

If anyone posts a 600 58X, then check for powder burns. (Heck, if anyone scores a 300 5X, do the same! These were some tough rules, and I certainly learned something about my own limitations as well as reasonable expectations for shooting a battle rifle.)

Well, silly me! When the rules stated that shooting jackets were not allowed, I reasonably assumed that this meant that you were to put the butt of the weapon into your shoulder without any additional padding. That is the way that chookter and myself shot the event, him with an L1A1, and me with a Garand. Otherwise, what is the reason for specifying that shooting jackets are not allowed?

Yes, we took a bit of a beating while prone, but I thought that all of us would be in the same boat.

I just don't want anyone to get hurt and I know that there are a lot of shooters in this match who have never fired 30 rounds out of a centerfire rifle in one session before.
Shooting jackets have supports inside the jacket that support the body so much that it's like standing against a tree.
I have accidently laid the butt of a rifle onto my collar bone too many times to know that I don't want to do that anymore. I will shoot this match without any padding because I'm used to it.

Neat picture on page B1 of July 4th's Albuquerque Tribune. Good write-up as well.

Don't know if you saw it, since you were (according to the article) pretty busy last night.

(To others: I will let the "celebrity" decide whether or not he wants to give you any more details.

I went and shot my targets this morning... after 30 rounds of 8mm into my shoulder, I'm going to be walking around sideways for awhile!!!

I'm going to volunteer to disqualify myself on the rimfire targets: I shot a scoped-22. Several friends of mine have iron sighted .22's, I just couldn't seem to locate anyone on a holiday weekend to borrow one... so, I just shot it scoped. I was curious to see what I could do (and it wasn't impressive anyway!!!). I'll note on my rimfire targets that I'm disqualified.
