Not very. One of the most common errors in this type of investigation stems from having too many extraneous personnel present. All the big shot politicos and ranking officers want to drop by the crime scene and all they do is get in the way. Old, outdoor crime scenes already present unique forensic challenges and these nincompoops only add to those difficulties by contaminating the evidence even more.
It certainly is. They didn't even notify the Levys, who found out about the discovery of their daughter's remains by watching TV. This is inexcusable.
