Yes, I did. And there are more possibilities. His presence on the intelligence committee for one. If Smith's allegations are true and he was participating in such sexual activities, then he would be prime for blackmail. He's also on the agricultural committee and I've been told that there's a lot of taking of land in agricultural lands south of DC--near Luray, for example.

Its one thing to miss the body when doing a general search of the park.

Its another to know about the two just-after-chandra assaults on joggers on one particular trail, with one of them being knocked down a ravine, and not sending in cadaver dogs to probe the woods by the trail.

Knowing about the assaults, They send in people on foot to do a cursory search, and that's it. That's just sad.

What I heard was that a man and his dog were walking through the park. The man was looking for turtles. The dog took off, sniffed the area where the body was eventually found. The dog started digging and uncovered the skull. The police confirmed this on FNC, later adding that some of the bones were found under about a foot of brush. Now, whether animals had scavenged or not... some bones, a hand for instance was found some distance away. 60 yards away if I recall correctly.

The hand if scavenged would probably not be covered by a foot of brush. This might explain confusion or conflicting reports of 'out in the open', versus covered.

But... it also raises another question. Naturally. If scavenging animals, had inadvertantly dismembered several bones, then wouldn't most if not all of the remains have been uncovered? Course, I suppose if the brush were heavy enough tree branches, maybe an animal pulling on a limb wouldn't disturb the covering over the majority of the body.

Easy, all dogs are democrats.

That may be the cruelest comment I've read on FR in a long time! Dogs are loyal, loving, intelligent, and most know how to learn new tricks. They're hardly Democrats. (Okay, we do need to work on that hand-out thing.) :-)

Agatha Christie is much more apropos:

Real life murders are RARELY like those in works of fiction

Maybe the cops didn't investigate thoroughly because somebody didn't want Condit cleared?

I've never seen a happy jogger yet! They look hot and tired and rather miserable to me. But then, I don't jog...or run...or walk...if I can help it (smile).

Yes, you are right...even if someone put her into a shallow grave, you would have a strong odor...and last summer was one hot summer! If that perp had attacked her from behind on a crest on a hill, she could have fallen down that steep incline where they are finding her bones...but there should have been a strong odor....and I would think that any joggers on that path would have smelled a strong odor and certainly any dogs would have picked up that odor as would have the other animals in that park...it doesn't make sense to me.

The article gives the times. As I recollect, it was late in the day, 6:30, 7:30, but in months when it still would have been daylight at those times.

Exactly! (I am wondering though why she was wearing a 'jogging bra' when it has been reported that she didn't like jogging?)

Ahem...I own 2 jogging bras, and I couldn't jog across the grocery store parking lot!

The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.

Chandra would have been the first victim, the only one killed then the other two left alive....

Yes, this is the fall guy. He's serving two 10 year sentences for assault, and in both instances was going after a Sony Walkman???. He didn't beat the women, or rape them, let alone kill them??? Levy's remains were found with a Walkman nearby, and he killed her and left her coveted Walkman right there next to the body? I think not. But I think the authorities will make the most of this pattern, and though Guandeque will never admit it, he will serve as the linchpin they need to put the case to rest. This man may be a creep, but in the end, he may deserve to be defended against the Levy murder.

Probably turn out that the Medical Examiner concludes that it was a suicide, just like Vince Foster.

Just doing the math, the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of this being a suicide. That's a pretty boring ending though, a lot of people will reject that just because it's just too dull. Still, Conduit must be such a jerk that she found enough motivation to punish him by offing herself. Her plan worked amazingly well.

It was sometime after 1, which is when she sent her last email (I think.)

And nobody knew what she was wearing, to the best of my knowledge.

Chandra's remains were covered by about 12 inches of brush and leaves. The leaves fell in November (some of the remains were not disturbed by the turtle hunter, and the leaves date the placement of the body at least back to that time. They were also covered with some soil, but this might be due to settling and weathering - they might not have been buried "in a shallow grave" as was earlier reported. On the other hand, the killer might have made some efforts to hide his kill.

Old turtle (tortoise)shells do get covered with soil - I used to hunt for them myself when I was a kid. They would be somewhat embedded in the dirt/humus in the woods.

Except that Agatha Christie is fiction, of course.

Of course Agatha Christie is fiction; but the principle is a good one. It applies in matters of crime, politics, and any and all other arenas where people do things and then want to disguise or hide what was done, how it was done, or who did it.

Lies are told, evidence is planted, the other party (political or otherwise) is blamed.

No, I can't see suicide writ anywhere. The occams razor solution is the guy in jail for attacking joggers in that exact same area in the same time frame.

If there was blood, it could now be invisible to the naked eye, due to sun bleaching etc.

Forensics will find out.

Wow. You know a lot more than all the investigators who do this for a career. Maybe you should apply to Scotland Yard.

I don't work for a PR firm, either. Nor continue to focus all the attention on the sex/affair/pregnancy angle. I keep in mind that she was journalism major. She worked at the Bureau of Prisons while the Clinton pardons were being processed. She interned for Grey Davis, who is up to his neck in the Oracle and the California energy scandals. The guy she had an affair with is on some very powerful committees, and who knows what pillow talk may have gone on? Who knows what she might have learned running in DC power circles?

And yet you think someone has to be arrogant to understand that the likelihood of her being a random victim of crime (at a scene that goes overlooked despite a massive police search) is remote? I don't think so.

The difference between me and the professionals is that they can't say what they think yet. I can. I don't consider that arrogant.

I think the Rock Creek predator would be the first thought since the police new she had looked it up. I believe the first attack was in February, so it should have been at the top of the list. Although I find it strange that these other two ladies were jogging in the early evening, and supposedly Chranda went out in the afternoon. And someone who "attacks" women to steal things probably would not take the time to find a safe place to hide the body, especially in the middle of the day, and in the middle of a path, when anyone else could jog by.
