Article shows that urban police departments have responded to the contradictory demands that they 1. reduce violent crime AND 2. go easy on the black and Hispanic men who in many cities have a virtual monopoly on crime, by engaging in de-policing and systematic fraud in the (under)reporting of crime.

Eventually, we will go back to the Jim Crow version of the law where "If it didn't affect white people, it didn't happen". Sad.

Except that this time, it will be a bifurcated Jim Crow/Jim Snow system. In the cities, it will be, 'if it didn't happen to black people, it didn't happen'; In the suburbs, the roles will be reversed.

The sad part is that it seems African-Americans in our town (Seattle) seem to want it that way. Anytime a white officer takes action involving someone from 'their community' they rally, involve the liberal media, whine, block freeways, etc. I give it a few years and the PD will have 'black units' to patrol the central district, etc. Oh sure, they'll have a few token whites in that unit, but they'll all be desk jockeys.

I remember the black preachers who raged at the Seattle media for showing pictures of black mobs beating, maiming, robbing and murdering whites during Mardi Gras last year. The news photographers had actually censored themselves; after catching a few shots of violence, they would turn away. But the black preachers and community leaders forgot to thank them for that. Black leaders demanded the media stop showing black criminals in the act.

The part about rallying and blocking freeways, etc., is news to me. Do you have any cites/links/names of cases/general dates (e.g., March, 2001)? I'd love to do some research on the matter.

According to the son, Miller walked over to the truck and ordered them to move. Miller, who is white, fired three shots, killing the elder Thomas. The son and his girlfriend say the shooting was unprovoked, but the Sheriff's Office said Thomas pointed a pistol at Miller.

Thanks for the link. The "community leaders" are insisting that the white officer failed to comply with the letter of a guideline that they maintain forbids him from intervening in any but a life-or-death situation while off-duty. Now, I haven't seen the Seattle P.D. Patrol Guide, but not only is this notion ludicrous on the face of it -- in most neighborhoods, white or black, residents would LOOK TO a neighbor who is a cop to deal with conflicts -- but black leaders across the country have embraced the notion of "community policing," which rejects the sort of legalistic distinctions these "community leaders" are insisting on. And as you noted, their notion of legalities is hopelessly one-sided, since it doesn't include due process for the officer they are accusing.

But there's yet another angle. I wasn't familair with the case in question, but I was familiar with most of the "community leaders." These are the same characters, who demanded that the Seattle media NOT REPORT on the racist black thugs who were singling out whites to rob, stomp, and murder the previous year during Mardi Gras. Putting their pro-black-criminal position together with this case, it becomes apparent to me that these people are black supremacists who do whatever they can on behalf of black felons, and against white policemen.

And to think, this is Seattle, not Cincinnati we're talking about!

One of the many awful consequences of this incident, is that photographs of Seattle's black community leaders could be used as recruiting posters for white supremacists. Indeed, last year following Mardi Gras, white supremacists had a field day on newspaper web forums all over the country (I stumbled onto a few.)
