The Western Illinois University basketball team appeared in photographs in its media guide wearing jerseys with the state name misspelled as Illinios. Nobody noticed. Then the team played six home games wearing the jerseys. Still, nobody noticed.

This is too hilarious...if true...

First, an interesting tidbit. The Western Illinois University basketball team appeared in photographs in its media guide wearing jerseys with the state name misspelled as Illinios. Nobody noticed. Then the team played six home games wearing the jerseys. Still, nobody noticed. This speaks volumes about the powers of perception in American universities.

LOL! At my first post-college job, there would frequently be names spelled incorrectly on our imprinted sportswear, despite the checks in place throughout the manufacturing process (I missed a few myself). Most mistakes got caught before the stuff went out the door- I particularly remember seeing Hawaii Ranibows, St. John's Evangelits, Mizzzou, Texas Longlongs, and so on.

One guy made a big deal over how he'd grandstanded on one particular order by setting up a single graphic and shooting it at number of different required sizes, rather than do everything individually. After all, he saved a lot of board time... but we ended up printing shirts for Norte Dame. No one caught the mistake until some snotty little kid pointed it out. Needless to say, there were some great deals to be had on factory seconds.

I'm sending this to my daughter, who will graduate next month and leave for Army Basic Training in July. So at least one matriculating high school student will get to hear it. I'll ask her to pass it among her friends and teachers.

Copy and paste in case I get invited to speak. Can easily adapt to local high school also. Hope you don't mind.

CD, I get Machine Design as well. Even if I skip the entire issue for lack of time, I ALWAYS make time to read Ron's page. That guy is a treasure.

I see that I'm going to have to renew my old subscription to Machine Design. It was always full of common sense stuff like this.
