What I remember most vividly about the day is my switch from Clinton-think (i.e., denial) to Bush-think (in a firefighter's words, etched in dust, "Rescue, Recovery, Revenge"). I went out to vote after the planes hit and saw a policeman at the polling place (a block from the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges in Brooklyn). I asked him how I would get to work that afternoon and was perplexed that business would not be going on as usual. He said there was no subway service, so I said that I would walk. He said I couldn't walk into downtown Manhattan, the bridge was closed. I pointed to the people walking on the bridge. He said, "they're walking one way."
One of my neighbors asked me if I wanted to go on the roof and watch it, and I was horrified at the thought. I wanted the remove of television so I could still live in Clinton land where things that happened didn't really happen.
I think often now of the Bush inaugural address about "angels directing the whirlwind." I remember at every instant how blessed we are to have George Bush as President.
And then I log on to FR because I know I will be among my own kind.

Muslims will hold parties with noisemakers and cakes shaped like the towers.
They will toast the hero martyrs, then toast the next ones to come.
Some won't be able to attend the party, having to work at the nuclear power plant or on the luggage ramp at the airport.

I just finished watching the HBO special. On 9/11, when people jumped from the windows of the Twin Towers, I turned away from the TV. I just couldn't watch. Tonight, I forced myself to watch and as I did I prayed that those who jumped are some place very special now along with all the other victims. I also watched because I want to keep within me the rage I experienced on 9/11. God Bless America.

I just finished watching it. There were some pictures we hadn't seen before of people running away from the WTC. More pictures of the poor souls who jumped out the windows. Mayor Rudy narrated much of it and he was good. There were some very good shots of the planes flying into the towers with vocal reactions. It ended with the New York City cop singing "God Bless America" and the shot of the three New York City Fire Department guys raising the American Flag. It was an extremely good show, but you really didn't miss too much of what has already been shown.

Ugh...the description of the "pop" is just horrible. I was at Fenway Park the night Bryce Florie took a ball off the face...I could hear the "pop" from that all the way in the back of the bleachers, and to this day it's the sickest sound I've ever heard. I can't even imagine the horrible sounds and images that haunt the survivors of 9/11.

THANK you....I visited your sites....very moving - I am unable to watch tonight's special (HBO deprived) and your pictures made me teary eyed with memories. As do the memories of others commenting here tonight.

Leaving the rest of the Congress and Senate on the front steps of the Capitol, singing "God Bless America", Dashel and Gephardt, two yellow curs, dashed for the shelter, then reported later that there was a "shadow government" in operation instigated by President Bush, even though they both were there and knew it wasn't a "shadow government".
If there is, God forbid, another event, these two should find the shelter door locked in their faces.

This special was so moving, so well done, and so painful to watch.
It should be shown on regular channels, however, so all could see it.
Painful though it is, it is the reason we are at war, and a better reason has not existed in our generation.

It should be shown on regular channels, however, so all could see it. I agree, but, because of the strong support for President Bush in that area, the alphabet channels would prefer we forget about the war, and the reasons for it.

SUBJECT: 9-11 Arab Terrorist AttackKnowing how august, elite institutions including the likes of The Smithsonian Institution like to re-write history...I then determined that no matter how hideous, history must be fully and faithfully recorded. Thanks to all the cameras and video-cams in the hands of professionals and amateur citizens...there most likely won't be a successful revision of what happened 9-11-01.
Excellent point. We're lucky that today the truth resides in millions of hard drives around the country and not just in the hands of a few editors. One thing we can also do to retard "truth-melt" is to try always to call the 9-11 Arab Terrorist Attack, aka the Sept 11 Arab Massacre of Amercians, by its name.
