PARIS — President Bush yesterday derisively challenged press claims of widespread anti-Americanism in Europe and ridiculed an American TV correspondent for suggesting as much — in English and French — to him and French President Jacques Chirac.
"So you go to a protest and I drive through the streets of Berlin, seeing hundreds of people lining the road, waving," Mr. Bush muttered to NBC News White House correspondent David Gregory during a joint press conference with Mr. Chirac.

John, Dahlink....how ARE ya????
It's the three or four left-wing Viagra's issued to every reporter just prior to a press conference.
The press loathes and detests George W. Bush: A sure sign he's doing the right thing ;^)
Hey, all, anyone have any ideas how we can keep the pressure ON the dems????? They're backpeddling, they're panicky....it's a GOOD THING!!!!
They are the most in touch with 'the Europeans'. They are the most 'educated'.
Fact is, traditionally they have been good at telling people how to think, and now, many Americans are telling them to go to hell.
Europe is the only place left really where they have a shot or some wiggle room in dictating to people how to think.
My sentiments exactly.
Ask the hard questions but not while we're in someone else's home. These particular protestors seemed to be sympathizers of Arafat and terrorists. Amazing for our press to give them mention.
They are supposedly getting pissed off at America for, in reality, doing the same thing they do...
THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS THERE IS NO BIAS IN THE PRESS THEY MERELY REPORT THE FACTS
If you say it enough times, people will believe any lie.
I reported, for the first time, in truest journalistic tradition, on the Des Plaines rejection of a gun control measure.
I was amazed at how easy it was to create bias by *what* I reported, not how I reported it.
The fact was the press asked Bush 99% of the questions and didn't care what the Frenchy guy said !
Bump!
To the communist party of China, anything that does not promote their leadership is 'biased'.
Thats one of the good things about FR. We get the same story often from 5 different sources, and in the end we get a pretty good picture of what really happened.
I think more reporting, not less, is a good thing.
Agreed. The internet is the single most powerful weapon against tyranny and bias and propaganda.
I, a rabid zionist, even get exposed to the Palestinian side of the story, here on Free Republic. :o)
The Euroweenies are just as guilty as anyone in talking past people and drum banging, tamoreen tamping, and hollywood-ifying their message instead of actually sitting down, talking it over and LISTENING.
Listening and thinking takes effort, but hell no, we want some entertainment.
I'll bet the Democrats are really pissed at Al Gore right now.
See post #28
LOL!
For O! so many reasons.
It's too bad one of them isn't English.
Notice the snotty vanity of this "reporter." He wanted to impress everyone with this French.
Many reporters feel this way. They are not "just covering the news." Oh no, that is beneath their intellect, their ability. They want to be PLAYERS on the international scene. They just don't want to go through Democratic election process....that too is beneath them.
Way to go W.
Bush should have just told the little pipsqueak to shut-the-f#$%-up but that would have been like pouring rocket fuel on a campfire for the press.
Bush should get pi$$ed more often.
Could be. Of course only the protest-freaks will get air time. Could it be that there is a grass-roots movement over there too, that are getting really fed up with business as usual? I wonder. Conservatives are slow to anger. Suffer the children.
Stretch tries to monopolize Ari's Press Conferences.
It will be interesting to watch Stretch's reaction to getting his water cut off.
And normal folks both in Europe, America and elsewhere are absolutely unhappy with the stupid generalisations so usual for press.
Let's analyse just the above mentioned sentence in italics.
It presumes that Europe and America are some sort of homogeneous chunks, and that split between them is a generaly recognised fact. In this way emphasis fells on the White House unhappiness with the coverage of an undeniable fact.
All three premises are false.
First of all, there are big groups of people both in America and in Europe who, in president'a words, have a heck of a lot more that unites them than divides them. So neither splits are fact, nor the two continents are homogeneous.
And the White House is unhappy - not with the alleged splits, but with the press's bias.
As to the "marginal" character of the protests (Chirac's words), he is too polite a Frenchie. Those 24,800 demonstrators out of 350 million Europeans - what a representative figure! - are just outsiders.
Oops, now I am too polite... they're bums, fuggy reds, loony radical campus lowlife.
Son of Clymer.
Gregory should tuck his tail between his legs and slither home on the next available flight. Instead, he'll probably wear his dressing-down as a badge of honor.
Mr. Gregory needs some deep therapy, if he's going to let the entire world hear how screwed up he is.
It's also arrogant and obnoxious. GW should have asked him to continue and let him hang himself. But GW's not a smart ass super reporter studman.
For years, I have tried to be reasonable, rational, and thoughtful of rude and insulting people. I have come to the conclusion that you can't "talk" decency into them--and ignoring them just makes them worse. The only effective way I have been able to deal with a louse is to laugh at him. Liberals and the Press, as a rule, have overinflated egos filled with hot air. Humor and ridicule seem to be the only way to burst their bubbles of self importance.
OMG! Did this really happen? Way to go Mr. President, LOL!
Yawl kin kiss my Grits.
Plain Talk is what this nation needs, now more than ever. It is what Americans respond to and it annoys the libs.
Why? The American press is hardly American. They would be thrilled with another terrorist attact, they would prefer one that killed thousands so they have something to write about.
They will tear this country apart, they will divide us, they will endanger us all if only they can get a scoop and a little more face time.
The reason they are doing this is to undermine the country and weaken us in the face of our enemies so there WILL be another attack.
