CFR was a biggie. He signed a bill that a retarded communist who didn't read english could see was not Constitutional.

All the unwavering Bush supporters made like it was the greatest political move ever made, with long drawn out explainations why it was such a good move, how it screwed up the democrats etc, etc.

I campaigned strongly for that junk not to pass and then wrote Bush e-mails urging
him to veto it. I was disappointed. However, in retrospect I truly think
he signed it because he felt that the DIMocRATS would have have a field day with
the Republicans between now and the November elections, AND because he felt that the
SCOTUS would throw it in the dumper for it's Constitutional flaws. All this, imho.......

Bring up Bush's Enron quagmire of patronage and corruption, what do the conservatives say? "What about the Democrats, they took more Enron money than the Republicans." Exactly the same garbage the Democrats were pulling.

What quagmire? Enron did give money to BOTH DIMocRATS and Republicans. Just a little more
to the GOP. No biggie there. The GLOBAL Crossing thing that you never hear about is a powder keg
the DIMocRATS are trying to sweep under the rug tho. Good ol Terry McAuliff!

He didn't nuke the countries I wanted him to, but he is the president, not an excon who believes the only response to violence is overwhelming violence in return for violence.

Might I suggest some sensitivity training??...LOL....I know what you mean...it's not easy being nice...or worse yet...soft.

On Bush....I'm more pragmatist than principle bound. I hate to admit it. I vote for the Pubbies by default. The Libertarians will make a point as is their right but they will accomplish essentially what Nader did: Hand victory to the more opposite party.

I give Bush a 7.5 domestically. I give him an 8.5 on foreign policy. Before his waffling on Israel, I would have given him nearly a 10. Of course how I rate Bush matters little to anyone but myself.

This must be part of their master plan to lead us all back to Eden.

While no fan of libertarian ideology and disgusted that Barr would be the focus of such a spoiler effort, an honest apprasial would say that Republicans claiming conservatism have created their own problem.

Where are the conservative Republicans in office pointing out the abuses of Federal power in the campaign of federal legislation against dangerous drugs? When did we see a conservative Republican speaking out as he should? The answer of course is, rarely. The problems that Republicans have are somewhat of their own making. This is no different than the problems they have in Race Politics. By failing to adhere to the Whiggish-conservative principle of Equal Justice Under Law and allowing themselves to be subverted by States Rights issues being hijacked by bigots, they allowed themselves to be marginalized in the last century. They should not let this happen on issues of growth in Federal Power.

Conservatives betrayed by ineffective Republican "leaders" are certainly a tempting lode for Libertarian prospectors. And if the division puts Democrat butts in Congressional seats, well, it must be the Republicans at fault. The Libertarians would NEVER drive a wedge into the GOP so they could mine the rich vein of dissatisfaction within. They are too politically pure to dally with such Machiavellian trifles.

I understand your cynicism and I share it often. But what really prompted my comment was my memory of the YAF in the Goldwater campaign. We found ourselves, as young conservatives, surrounded by States Righters that we knew were Jim Crow Democrats, or worse, a few short months earlier. In the campaign, these new adherents were accepted and even pandered to in many cases.

I remember hearing a black republican delegate, who had been a delegate at three conventions, describing how the nomination rally marchers parading the floor during their demonstation/sign-conga-line, contained dozens who put their cigarettes out on his suit as he stood at the corner where the line turned at the back of the hall.

It isn't only Rinos that fail to walk-the-walk.

In a world of my dreams, I would hope to see few that hold onto Rationalist schemes of societal/political perfection from magic formulas, but in the real world I work with what I find. Some of them are quite handy fellows in a fight.
