Report: Al Qaeda Tells U.S. to Get Ready for Attack

CAIRO (Reuters) - The pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published Sunday what it said was a statement from an al Qaeda spokesman warning the United States to get ready for another attack.

"What is coming to the Americans will not, by the will of God, be less than what has come," the newspaper quoted al Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman bu Ghaith as saying in a statement.

"So beware, America. Get ready. Get prepared. Put on the safety belt," he said in a statement al-Hayat said was published on the www.alneda.com Web site.

The Web site, which has in the past regularly carried news on Afghanistan and statements it said came from Taliban leaders, could not be accessed immediately by Reuters.

The site published a statement in April it said was from Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Bu Ghaith, a Kuwaiti-born cleric who emerged as an al Qaeda spokesman after the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington, said al Qaeda would continue to hit Americans, Jews and their targets, either "individuals or institutions."

He cited what he described as America's anti-Muslim policies in countries such as Somalia, Sudan, Indonesia and the Philippines as a reason for targeting the United States. He also complained Israel had acted against the Palestinians for 50 years with "American blessing."

Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network are blamed for masterminding the Sept. 11 attacks that killed 3,000 people.

U.S.-led coalition forces are hunting for the remnants of Taliban and al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan, after launching an offensive in October that ousted the Taliban from power.

I understand how you feel. I know another attack is coming, it has to. I too would like to see some massive tightening of security, but we are a government of the people and the people(most of them) are not ready for it.

GW is doing a good job of preparing the ground, his words are quietly penetrating that stodgy mindset left to us by X42 but it's going to take time and another attack,probably one more damaging than 911.

I for one cannot believe we have seen Airline Executives calling for a LOOSENING of security.

I know one is coming,you know one is coming, Al-quieda knows, and so does joe smuck. It will be horrible,but the after math, our retaliation, will be beyond belief.

I've got to tell you, the mood in America, even up here in Taxachutts is pretty much the same. The fist attack was shocking, and we (as a nation) handled it well. The Germ Warfare was really bad, but we contained it quite well. But if there is ANYTHING like a "smoking gun" and another attack, that will be the EXCUSE that we have been WAITING for.


Our response will be nuclear and terrible, and it will be absolute. We won't give a darn what any other country thinks, and we will flatten into glass any aggressor irreguardless of which nation is harboring them. PERIOD. We, as a nation haven't spent Billions of Dollars in expensive weapons of Mass Destruction not to use them. So the Towel Heads can just go ahead. We want the EXCUSE to vent our RAGE. We are waiting for the EXCUSE. We are waiting...

I think they warn before an attack, with the Cole, the Embassy bombings, etc, they sent a warning about a month before hand.

A month from now with be Independence Day, Fourth of July.

You lost me there. What does this have to do with our government acting responsibily by securing our borders and using the immigration laws already on the books to find and deport those who have the potential to do great harm to our country? BTW, in poll after poll most people indicate that they want serious immigration reform.

I believe that Putin and the IDF warned us last time. Maybe this time we will listen.
There was that thing in Russia to get rid of American dollars, which was traced back to Berevosky, and he was then found to be supporting the chechens.
The chechens will know ahead of time and they are so mouthy they won't be able to not brag about it. Of all the islamics the chechens are the mouthiest. And that's why I read all the chechen sites I can find time to read.

this is to cause confusion and to give their allies in media (Dan et al) and government (hillary et al) ammunition against the target country (USA).

Doesn't anyone else get tired of so many freepers missing the point? We're at war with Al Qaeda, not our own two party system. Yes, we live in a nation populated with liberals, moderates and conservatives--but let's not think for one minute that we have a war between just the American conservatives and Al Qaeda.

And yes, Al Qaeda would love to drive a wedge to divide Americans on the war effort, but let's not help them.

Why would al Qaeda do us the favor of giving us warnings?

1. To make us feel less secure. It's the skinny kid on the playground who says to the big kid, "hey, I know karate so you'd better back off."

2. To rally support from muslims who are sitting on the sidelines waiting to see who the winner is likely to be.

3. To disrupt our economy. The stock market tends to get weak knees with predictions of bad news.

4. To make us divert our resources from offenseive actions to defensive actions.

I think that if they had a real plan to do some serious damage they'd hold off on bragging until the deed was done.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the racial profiling issue. In the next wave they will probably try to appear as "American" as possible.
