Okla people would know Hispanic from ME

Give me a break.

The average American, if an Arab doesn't cooperate by wearing a full beard and a dishtowel and riding a camel waving a Koran(and I suspect that Al Quaeda, if it does use Arabs again...and they've stopped using them completely for ANYTHING in the US, by all appearances...will not have their operatives thus attired) is pretty much totally incapable of accurately determining who is "Middle Eastern" or "Arab" or not.

The reality is that as an ethnic group Arabs are a highly varied community that has had an enormous amount of intermixing with neighboring populations (and those populations, like the Spanish, who have then intermixed with Native American populations in the Western Hemisphere, and black Africans, have intermixed with Arabs themselves.)

All kinds of Hispanics, Italians, Greeks, etc. could easily be mistaken for Arabs, and plenty of Arabs look like African Americans, or don't look "Arab" at all; cleaned up and wearing a suit, a fair number of the 9/11 hijackers don't look particularly Middle Eastern at all.

And then, of course, Pakistanis and such are not Arab, nor are they "Middle Easterners."

how likely is it that Al Qaeda would entrust a newbie with the one largest terrorist bombings ever attempted to that point?

At this point, because he had assess in and out of this country becasuse of his citizenship he was definately useful to Al Queda.

We can no longer think logically, we have to be able to become devious thinkers. If and when dealing with terrorists, one must think as the terrorist.

Read on one the the threads an article that states on Padilla's marriage license it shows him to be an African American using the name Ibraham.

"Wasn't he in prison when OKC happened?"

Doesn't look like it. Converted to Muslim in 1988. Whereabouts between 1992 and 1997 unaccounted for in article Here

They trusted him with more than $10,000.00, that says something. Earlier today I was wondering if he was a distraction ploy. That seems unlikely since he was arrested a month ago and we are just hearing about it now.

For those comparing specific details in the pictures. Forget it. The drawing is a composite sketch. Not a photo. If someone did a similar drawing of you, you wouldn't look anything like it.

The really interesting connection is that Terry Nichol's ex-wife is named Lana Padilla...

Chicago Sun-Times article this morning has Padilla in Pakistan and Afghanistan some time in the early 90's. He could have gotten training (in explosives?) at an Islamist camp at some time between '93 and '95. Would only require a couple of months.

The Waco/OKC/TWA 800 Junkies don't have actual lives. This is all they've got!

Well, I see that you are posting to this thread too--what's your life like?

Besides, from the different posts that I have read, Padilla was free in '95. Of course, that doesn't mean a thing, and I know it. Does that make me a junkie without a life?

OK, but now I’m getting confused. I suppose the point is that just about anyone could match a composite drawing.

Keep in mind, Padilla converted to Islam in 1993 and the OKC bombing was in 1995. With the planning time necessary, how likely is it that Al Qaeda would entrust a newbie with the one largest terrorist bombings ever attempted to that point?

Actually, very likely. It is AlQueda's (and Iraqs) style to leave someone holding the bag, (as in WTC...) without sacrificing the true talent behind the mission, this would be true in 9/11 as well, as Mohammed Atta, aside from being described as the mastermind, could not possibly have been. He does not seem sophisticated enough to have masterminded a 3 am bodega holdup in harlem. (witness the incedent with him and the USDA woman....).

Florida paper this morning says Padilla's Florida prison term ended in '92 and his probation in '93. What prison was he in?
