No suspicious data found on ECC computer hard drives

No suspicious or terrorism-linked information was discovered on the Edison Community College computer hard drives seized by Collier County sheriff's deputies earlier this week.

Sheriff's investigators say they found some research on the Muslim religion, but nothing that appeared to be related to terrorist activity or of a criminal nature.

The hard drives were taken from the ECC campus library in East Naples on Wednesday night after someone called authorities about three men who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent whispering together and using the Internet. Officials said they were accessing Islamic newspapers and other Islamic sites.

The person who called in said it appeared the men were using an instant messaging service and having online conversations in what appeared to be a foreign language, sheriff's officials say.

Deputies Thursday analyzed the contents of the computers and came across Web sites concerning Muslim research, but nothing of a terrorist or anti-American nature, investigators say.

The computers will be returned to the college next week.

Officials say investigating any suspicious behavior is routine when called in by a concerned member of the public.

Thanks for the post, Shermy. I would have missed the story. I check here daily to see if there's anything new. I think quiet on the part of MFH is best, but I do worry about his safety.

IMO terrorist communication wouldn't necessarily be discernable. Are the Muslim sites in Arabic? Is there a code? More questions than answers.

I've been watching for possible connections to the Marco story or to Florida. The following link is to an item with a dateline Medley, FL. Medley is a little west of Hialeah on the east coast, directly across the state from Marco Island. Certainly hope there's no connection! We seem to be infested, so I'm suspicious.
