CARY, N.C. -- Cary Mayor Glen Lang said tax money is literally pouring into Town Hall to the point where a $57 million reserve fund has built up. He said it is either time to spend some of that money or reduce taxes.

I guess stranger things have happened...
Want to bet where Helga's NOT from? This whole town is loony. A couple of Wake County EMS personnel have some friends that work for the services in Cary and they can hardly afford to live in the town they support!!
LOL.
At least he didn't try to steal the Stanley Cup when it was in Raleigh the other day!
Maybe that's why he's proposing it... a cheap political stunt.
I don't doubt it.
LOL, I can see Tax Hike Mike backing up the Brinks truck now.
Geez, PL... you must have been waiting for that!
I disagree, but as long as Cary stays far, far away from this redneck yokel, you can claim it stands for whatever you want!
Oncet in a while the missus makes me drop the plow, saddle up them horses an' ride into town.
I have even been as far away as Apex before!
But seriously, I did know that. 8^)
Phantom, you know I'm just kidding you
And while I do fancy myself as the best ENC BBQ cook the north has ever produced, I will have to introduce several yankee specials to "all y'all". Such as Spiedies.

Plus I dont go to the symphony.
Unless its the San Francisco Symphony and Metallica is playing with them.

LOLOL!! Cary pyrotechnics don't tempt you? I'm truly crushed.
Ya'll are welcome to come to Hatteras and visit me. I'm not crazy about fireworks anyway, Constitution Day's wife and I share the same malady, we've discussed this at length ; )
I'd rather sit and listen to the sound of the surf any day of the week.
MKM
We'll probably spend the 4th onboard the sailboat on Pamlico Sound.
The picnic and fireworks was just an idea and laughed when I saw that it was being hosted by Cary.
I've been to one of the snobby concerts at Regency Park in Cary before, never again. Too crowded, too snobbish, too pinky in the air drinking wine turning up their noses better than everyone else.
Give me a beer and the beach any ole day of the week.
Have fun on your boat, I'm jealous, someday I'd like to own a boat. I feel a need to be near the water, I really miss it.

There is no shade. It would be good to have one of those freestanding canopies.
Bring lots of mosquito repellent--citronella torches are great.
There are no hot showers, only cold.
You can't have a campfire at the campground, but you can on the beach. Build one after sundown and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Then watch the tide come in and douse the fire out.
Take the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke, it's free.
The steps in the lighthouse are closed to the public--too bad. The view from the top is amazing.
Try Dirty Dick's at Avon one night while you're there. The spicy shrimp goes well with beer. ;-)
Have fun and stay safe.
What's up with this?.....I read your post to my husband who is here hyperventilating at the thought. Are all the campgrounds lacking in hot water? We have reservations at the KOA.
He grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and thinks he's in the dead of winter if the temp gets below 70 degrees AND he likes his showers scalding hot, year round.
I'll definately write down Dirty Dicks as a place to go. I'm all over spicy shrimp and beer. Thanks for the inside info, I appreciate it.

I just assumed that you'd be at the national campground.
Sorry for the near heart attack.
We bring solar shower bags with us and take showers at night and the water's plenty hot.
What we need for a FReeper cookout is a field where we can haul our smokers and grills.
Then we can have a row of tables to sample all of the entries, have a vote, and crown our BBQ King/Queen.
Know of any such field?
LOL......My husband is SO relieved.
The KOA is pretty pricey as far as KOA's go, now I know why. I didn't even know there was a national campground. Apparently we have a lot to learn about Hatteras.
I figure whatever we pay at the KOA is a WHOLE lot cheaper than staying at a local motel/hotel.
How about the heat level at Hatteras, does it cool down pretty well at night in the summer? We are trying to figure out how to put a cheap A/C in our pop-up but wonder if we even need it there?
MKM
It cools down at night since there's plenty of wind.
I always thought that the coastal breezes kept the mosquitoes away.
Seems I have a lot to learn, what can I say I'm a city girl that has salt water flowing through my veins?
MKM
On the nicer side I know you said you're going down to the Cape, and if you take a break from fishing, I would recommend taking a night to come back to Manteo and see the play, one of the longest running outdoor plays in the US. Take a whole day for that because you'll want to tour the Elizabeth II and the Gardens
At least Cary is still having em. Chapel Hill canceled theirs. Supposedly not enough money in the budget.
