CARY, N.C. -- Cary Mayor Glen Lang said tax money is literally pouring into Town Hall to the point where a $57 million reserve fund has built up. He said it is either time to spend some of that money or reduce taxes.

Cary resident Helga Lewis said the mayor should keep it.

Want to bet where Helga's NOT from? This whole town is loony. A couple of Wake County EMS personnel have some friends that work for the services in Cary and they can hardly afford to live in the town they support!!

Maybe that's why he's proposing it... a cheap political stunt.

Geez, PL... you must have been waiting for that!
I disagree, but as long as Cary stays far, far away from this redneck yokel, you can claim it stands for whatever you want!

Well the next time you'uns come up this way, maybe we can all get in the horseless carriage and go over to that Caary place and eat at one of them fine yankeeified BBQ restaurants. LOL. Then we can take PL down to a good BBQ place like Cherry's.

Phantom, you know I'm just kidding you

We seriously should try to put together a Raleigh and surrounding area FReeper BBQ/Party/Get together.

And while I do fancy myself as the best ENC BBQ cook the north has ever produced, I will have to introduce several yankee specials to "all y'all". Such as Spiedies.

If we're eating Eastern, I'll do whatever to help throw in for it, cook it, eat it, or whatever is decided. But I've had what they call BBQ up in Minnesota. Don't know what Spiedies is, but if it's like Minnesota BBQ, y'all might want to put a little more vinegar on it!! LOL

Glen Lang is a Democrat, and he is an a**, trying to save his a**. He happens to think that a tax cut sounds like something that might "play" well in Cary. Doesn't change the a** part.

Spiedies in no way resemble any kind of BBQ from any part of the country. But they are a meat product, so thats good. They can be made out of several kinds of meat. I make em out of chicken, pork, lamb, and venison. And no, they are not all mixed together.

And while not ENC BBQ, a good smoked brisket is hard to beat for fans of beef.

I'm going to be camping in Cape Hatteras on the 4th.

Ya'll are welcome to come to Hatteras and visit me. I'm not crazy about fireworks anyway, Constitution Day's wife and I share the same malady, we've discussed this at length ; )

I'd rather sit and listen to the sound of the surf any day of the week.

We were at Hatteras last week. A lot of rip tides! The surf was beautiful, though, and the water wasn't too cold. It should be just right by the 4th.

We'll probably spend the 4th onboard the sailboat on Pamlico Sound.

The picnic and fireworks was just an idea and laughed when I saw that it was being hosted by Cary.

We've never been to Hatteras before so we are really looking forward to it.

I've been to one of the snobby concerts at Regency Park in Cary before, never again. Too crowded, too snobbish, too pinky in the air drinking wine turning up their noses better than everyone else.

Give me a beer and the beach any ole day of the week.

Have fun on your boat, I'm jealous, someday I'd like to own a boat. I feel a need to be near the water, I really miss it.

Camping at Hatteras:

There is no shade. It would be good to have one of those freestanding canopies.

Bring lots of mosquito repellent--citronella torches are great.

There are no hot showers, only cold.

You can't have a campfire at the campground, but you can on the beach. Build one after sundown and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Then watch the tide come in and douse the fire out.

Take the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke, it's free.

The steps in the lighthouse are closed to the public--too bad. The view from the top is amazing.

Try Dirty Dick's at Avon one night while you're there. The spicy shrimp goes well with beer. ;-)

Have fun and stay safe.

What's up with this?.....I read your post to my husband who is here hyperventilating at the thought. Are all the campgrounds lacking in hot water? We have reservations at the KOA.

He grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and thinks he's in the dead of winter if the temp gets below 70 degrees AND he likes his showers scalding hot, year round.

I'll definately write down Dirty Dicks as a place to go. I'm all over spicy shrimp and beer. Thanks for the inside info, I appreciate it.

You're at KOA! Oh, well, you should be okay.

I just assumed that you'd be at the national campground.

Sorry for the near heart attack.

We bring solar shower bags with us and take showers at night and the water's plenty hot.

AAACKKK!!! I was thinking about going to the country concert tonight with Brooks&Dunn, Trick Pony, and Chris Cagle, but I thought it was going to rain. Classical is beautiful music, but doesn't go good with BBQ

What we need for a FReeper cookout is a field where we can haul our smokers and grills.

Then we can have a row of tables to sample all of the entries, have a vote, and crown our BBQ King/Queen.

Know of any such field?

THANK GOD!!!!!

LOL......My husband is SO relieved.

The KOA is pretty pricey as far as KOA's go, now I know why. I didn't even know there was a national campground. Apparently we have a lot to learn about Hatteras.

I figure whatever we pay at the KOA is a WHOLE lot cheaper than staying at a local motel/hotel.

How about the heat level at Hatteras, does it cool down pretty well at night in the summer? We are trying to figure out how to put a cheap A/C in our pop-up but wonder if we even need it there?

It cools down at night since there's plenty of wind.

Good........I was a little worried since you said take insect repellent.

I always thought that the coastal breezes kept the mosquitoes away.

Seems I have a lot to learn, what can I say I'm a city girl that has salt water flowing through my veins?

When I was growing up, my father who teaches 7th through 9th used to take a group to the Banks every year and I would go with him. Took my wife out there for our honeymoon as she had never gone. While our trip was cut short by Hurricane Bonnie, the Outer Banks is still the most beautiful part of this state. Nags Head and north have exploded with tourists but down 12 it is still quiet. Be careful of sea turtles in the road. I'm not talking box turtles, these things are huge and you can have the tendency to speed up on the long stretches. You hit one, it's not a pretty sight for the turtle or the car. Also going across William C Bonner watch out for the seagulls. People have tamed them over the years to take food out of their hands so they WILL dive on a moving car.

On the nicer side I know you said you're going down to the Cape, and if you take a break from fishing, I would recommend taking a night to come back to Manteo and see the play, one of the longest running outdoor plays in the US. Take a whole day for that because you'll want to tour the Elizabeth II and the Gardens

I will be at my parents house, which is a mile from downtown Cary. Not sure where the fireworks are going off, but I suspect I will be able to see them.

At least Cary is still having em. Chapel Hill canceled theirs. Supposedly not enough money in the budget.
