Good work, Jim. I squeezed in a few extra shekels for this summer's FR donations drive, so please have a cold one on me.

This is excellent news. These landsharks probably spilled more then $10,000 worth of latte preparing their case. Essentially, you stoned them.

Predictions of FR's demise are greatly exaggerated.

The "Best Use " for the liberal trash is bird cage lining.

Having no birds in cages I do without.

Finally! Not the big win for the Slimes or Compost like some were predicting (hoping). Glad it is resolved. Should be a large weight off your shoulders.

Thanks for the ping CG, Tonk and Bunny.

This is great news and a relief to finally have this over with. FR lives on - that's a victory in my book. :-)

Only $5,000 to each? Heck, that's only enough for those fat cats to have one good power lunch with their comrades!

We have won on an important Constitutional principle and now I think it's time we go out there and tell everyone how they tried to shut us down/break us with this petty lawsuit.

FREEPERS, PASS THE WORD. LA TIMES AND WASHINGTON POST ARE NOT WORTHY OF OUR TIME.

Good job! Let's use the allowed excerpts and continue to remind everyone that the WP and NYT are liberal, left-wing publications that supports liars and perverts so long as they are registered democrats.

Thanks Jim and congratulations! Looks like LAT and WP lost a lot more than we did. Doesn't look like very good pr for them - we have a widespread readership.

If you had the funds, I'm sure that you would have prevailed in the courts. - The settlement proves that they thought so too, but it is good to have this thorn removed.

Excellent observation, and I agree. They always go after the one with the fewest resources so as to keep the fight short, and make the victory clear. Jim's unwillingness to bend on principle is what kept FreeRepublic alive.

If the LA Slime and Washington Compost thought they'd keep their victory during Jim's appeal, they'd have never accepted such a small amount of "compensation" for their "articles." Rather, they'd have proceeded ahead and tried to make a mockery out of Jim and FreeRepublic.

Ain't it something when someone stands on principle and wins? An example has been set here today.

This is a tragedy of biblical proportions for the boys over at "Free Republic Death Watch".

Heh heh...

My guess is that they'll have to go back to gazing at Playboy centerfolds to make their hand-candy work ;o)

It's a crying shame that the hallowed words of the WP/LAT will no longer grace our pages, but, somehow, I am sure we will manage to live on without them.

LOL! Too funny! I'm happy to hear that we're still here and not going anywhere. Congrats!

Very, very good news. Congratulations Jim on a well executed legal battle fought on principle. I understand that you don't see it as a clean win, but from my perspective it looks like LAT/WP crawled down from the "off-with-FR's-head" belligerent attitude they started out with.

Smells like victory to me!

Liners for the bird cage, indeed. If not for the fact that printer's ink is allergenic and messy, the WP and the LAT would make for an excellent substitute for Charmin.

They and their crack legal teams must be bursting with pride about now -- and wondering how to spend their $5,000 windfalls........

I think you should be ashamed for picking on the WP and LAT. You bully!

I have it from a good source, the only people who still subscribe to either paper are those who own birds in cages.

Jim: What fabulous news. The token payments are much less than I envisioned and I don't ever take the time to read an entire article by the Clymers anyway. Great.

Michael-thanks for the ping. I missed this one despite checking this place more often than I should.

Compost and Slimes Pressholes: F you. We're still here and getting stronger every day. To the extent I can work and help to see you destroyed, I will. *spit*
