President Bush held a fitness expo on the South Lawn today to help launch his health and fitness initiative. Bush appointed football hall of famer Lynn Swann as President of the President's Council on Fitness, and Dot Richardson, an Olympic gold medalist in softball and an orthopedic surgeon, as Vice President. The President urged all Americans to make their health and fitness a priority. He and Gail Norton have waived entrance fees to national and federal parks this weekend to get people outside to walk or hike. This evening, the President attended the Leon H. Sullivan Summit Dinner in Washington. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: It is important for all of us to be responsible for the decisions we make in life. It's important for us to be responsible for taking care of our own health. And as we do so, not only will we each have a more fulfilling life, collectively we'll make a great contribution to the country we love.
RWP's note: Dot Richardson has to be the world's best ever softball player. The woman is just incredible!

I am watching tv but thought I would check into this site for a few minutes. The dr. told Jan today that he thought her Crohn's was acting up again and is going to put her on a new medication. She will probably get to come home this weekend. Thanks everyone for your prayers for both of us. MamaB

I saw a portion of this this morning. My husband was impressed, especially when Laura said that Barbara Bush swam 88 LAPS in their pool last summer!!
I told my husband he now has to at least get his own snacks from the kitchen. LOL!

More prayers for both of you that she'll be home this weekend!

Thanks for the fitness ping. Sir SuziQ and I have made a pact to get on the treadmill AT LEAST every other day, if not every day! And we've cleared out the extra bedroom to set up the Bowflex we've had for two years, but haven't used consistently! I've got about 100 pounds to lose before next July, so I've got to work hard at it. It is so easy to put it on, and such work to get it off. But it's nobody's fault but my own. My food intake has been quite a lot more than my energy output for about 13 years, since I got pregnant with the last of our 4 kids, so it has added up. But I've made a promise to myself NOT to be fat AND fifty, so I have just over a year!!

IOU bump.
How was the golf game tonight?
To: SuziQ
Well, I played softball Tuesday night, 9 holes of golf last night, 18 more holes today in very humid temps, took the doggie for a walk tonight, and plan on doing a lot of yard work this weekend.
I think I should be doing more. ;)
The one thing I loved about the speech is that he made it clear that it is the INDIVIDUAL'S responsibility to take control of their health.
