Don't call it "Frisco." What do you call it then "Fistgo"?
(Sorry I'm bad today)

Sorry that was so wrong

So what is the most endearing name that would be preferred?
San Fran?
City by the Bay?

I haven't been following this race too closely. What is Simon's position on immigration (illegal or otherwise)? What about on services for illegals, etc?

Get them on cars...bumper stickers (if placed on cars and not just stuck in drawers at someone's home) is worth hundreds of free advertising for each sticker placed on a car. A good campaign tactic.

I lived there for two years in the '60's right out of college. My first daughter was born there. Would have stayed forever, but I was out of work and had a job offer waiting back on the East Coast. And, yes, like all the regulars, I know it is NEVER called "Frisco." I spent half my income when I was there to have an apartment on Twin Peaks, above the fog line. Most days, when the "fog crept in on little cat feet," we watched it happen 'til nothing but the tops of the Golden Gate Bridge Towers and our hills were sticking out of it.
Beautiful, beautiful city, with great restaurants. I got to commute to my first job on a cable car. Miss it still.

When respondents were asked who they would vote for if the election were held today, Davis lagged nine points behind Republican challenger Bill Simon. We can only hope. But there's lots of time for the kind of back-stabbing treachery Davis and his liberal stooges are noted for.

LOL! Either "The City" or "San Francisco."
To: Hugin
Meanwhile the latest Field Poll shows Gray Davis 28 points ahead of Bill Simon. You sure that isn't the (illegal immigrant) Field worker poll?

I meant no disrespect!

In Herb Caen's day.. It was Baghdad by the Bay...
I remember my first trip over the Golden Gate and thru the city..
The city has had and has its problems but its not unlike many other cities these days.
Inmates on Alcatraz used to have a helluva view .. Maybe that is the best way to view San francisco these days.. from a distance

San Francisco's bum legions have created a new career path for ambitious young leftists: the Homeless Advocate (tm). The Homeless Advocate (tm) purports to speak for these armies of disposessed, claiming loudly that they are people just like you and me who have fallen on hard times, and are therefore owed large cash payments from the city treasury each month. Oh, and since the Homeless Advocates (tm) are so effective in defending the interest of the poor unfortunates, they feel that they are also owed large cash payments from the city treasury each month - to the tune of $70-$100K a year government jobs. Pretty good compensation for shooting your mouth off at Borad of Supervisors meetings.
And where do the Supervisors stand on this petty extortion? Squarely behind it. You see, the Homeless Advocates (tm) are good friends of one Chris Daly, vocal member of the Board of Supervisors and left-wing imbecile extraordinaire. Many of the Board members owe their political careers to the Homeless Advocates (tm) and their hard left allies, and dare not disagree with the noble concept that handing cash to a heroin addict every month is a good and noble thing.
There is a minimal amount of hope on the horizon. One of the Supervisors, one Gavin Newsome, while as liberal a Democrat as one is likely to find anywhere in California, realizes the negative impact that the bum hordes are having on tourism and business in San Francisco and has proposed drastically curtailing direct cash payments to said hordes. (Not eliminating "Homeless Services" altogether, as should be done, but a start.) For this, Mr. Newsome, a young, charismatic, straight, white male, has been pilloried by the Homeless Advocates (tm) and their cronies; described as anything from the "Second Coming of John Ashcroft" to "Hitler on Roller Skates."
But the left has a small problem. San Francisco voters seem to like Mr. Newsome's proposals, and Mr. Newsome is running for mayor next year (against the execrable Leninist Tom Ammiano). Should he win, San Francisco might enter a temporary period of respite from the bum plague, similar to the mild improvement we saw when Frank Jordan took over from Art Agnos. Mr. Newsome is no Rudy Giuliani, but he understands as few of his fellows do the importance of keeping the trains running on time.
If Ammiano wins, however, San Francisco is dead. His policies, coupled with continued weakness in the tourist economy, will send the majority of San Francisco businesses running for the exits. And the message will continue to be sent to the worthless and indigent of America: "Hitch a ride out to Frisco, man! The livin's easy!"

Very good news...all I've heard is that Simon's getting outspent and out-advertised and has no capacity for attracting donations. Keep the momentum going!!

I actually had a pleasant mini vacation in that liberal cesspool last year, grin. It would be a neat place without all the lefties.

Simon is doing what he needs to do to win. Remember, everyone in the primary said that he should have gone on tv sooner, attacked Riordan sooner, done this, done that, ad nauseum ... and he won by nearly 19 points.
It's too early for a massive television buy. Davis is wasting money, which is fine.
