That would be a toss up for me. I'd probably take the '65 over the nickel spitter just 'cause I have so many memories in my pops '65. I've actually got an oportunity to trade for a 56 4dr wagon that I have been torn over for a bit.

Yup - I'm a minimalist. I always preferred manual hubs.
A buddy of mine in college had a Scout. It was more than half Bondo, but could drive through anything. It was probably the most capable 4WD I've ever driven.
A few years ago, I lived in Portland, Oregon - There was a car dealer there who specialized in vintage Scouts. I used to visit his lot and drool. Never did get one, though.
One of these days, I will buy an old one and do a complete frame off restoration.
My other favorite, BTW, is the Jeep Commando.

I've always thought the big Caprice wagon, with the LT1 and other Corvette go fast hardware, would make a great project car.
I read something a few years ago about a guy who takes the same approach with Suburbans. Very cool.

My wifes daily driver is a 95 Riviera with the SUPERCHARGED 3.8. It is a great road car and gets 27 to 30 mpg. About 18 around town. I think GM killed it because it was stealing sales from Cad because it was $10,000 less. I will probably buy the new GTO next year for my sand box. I had a new 65 goat 389 tri power with the 4 speed. Traded it in on my 68 Chev Step side that I still have. BTW...I'll be 70 next year.

My first memories of an automobile were the smell of the leather seats in my Dad's brand new 1953 Skylark, painted white. I remember riding in it along the Virginia coast, in the summer with the top down, listening to Ebb Tide (when I was 4 years
old - guess that dates me pretty well, eh?)

Sorry to get you all excited for nothing. =:^(

That must have been great. The first car I remember was my Dads 68 Charger. The neat thing about those was the built-in child disciple system: if the kids start getting too rowdy in the back you just punch it and pin them to the seat.

That's the one. Looks like the ugly sire of the 1949 Mercury (and probably made that boat look like a toy). Yet you can't keep your eyes off the big bucket...

,,, I took a trip to New York back in 1991 to have a look at the place. Long way to go, but I'd wanted to see it since I was a little kid. I thought I might have seen a couple of Checkers cabs and maybe even scored a ride in one but no such luck.
A few minutes away from where I live though there's a black Checker in Len Southward's museum. It was originally owned by Queen Solotte of Tonga. That's the only off-film example I've seen.

1940 Ford coupe, convertible, and Tudor sedans, but with Mustang GT running gear,ac,ps,pb,electric windows,cd player, etc. FoMoCo couldn't build them fast enough to keep up with the demand. (have a coupe and a Tudor)

Had a 500 cubic inch V-8 monster I have a 76 coupe de ville with the 500 incher. I plan on using the engine and tranny in a 54 Mercury.

Did you say, "American"???? Oh well......... 1956 VW Bug....split back window and hard body! Body as hard as Laurie Dhue, Heather Nauert, or Paula (skiing) Zahn !!! Hard and tight......lovely !
Wo, I better go make my wife's coffee !!!

Anybody who would WANT to be driving an old American car in today's automotive world really shouldn't be in the gene pool. Then again, maybe you should learn a little something about a subject before you make a fool out of yourself talking about it. Reading the opinions of elitost Euro-wannabe faries in Road and Track doesn't count as experience.
