I don't know what I find more disturbing....the selling of soiled panties and "other related items", or the fact that this is a FEDERAL OFFENSE! (Please note, I said "disturbing", not surprizing".)

Such a pity. If only she had used the Brown to ship the brown, she wouldn't be getting charged with using USPS for improper purposes.

Postal Inspectors Discover Web-Based Business
Posted: 8:39 p.m. EDT July 5, 2002

ANDERSON, S.C. -- A Central, S.C., woman pleaded guilty this week to federal charges of mailing soiled underwear and other items that she sold over the Internet. According to a release from South Carolina U.S. Attorney Strom Thumond Jr., 21-year-old Christine Vetter (pictured, left) admitted in federal court that she operated a Web site offering the items for sale.
Vetter said that, from November 2000 to March 2002, she sold and mailed thousands of dollars worth of soiled underwear and other used hygiene and sex-related items on the Web site while she was a student at Clemson University at the time.
The woman faces up to five years in prison or a $250,000 fine on charges of "mailing indecent and filthy substances."
The case was investigated by U.S. Postal Service agents. The investigators learned about Vetter's business when they spotted a letter addressed to her, labeled that it contained child pornography.
The envelope did not contain any child pornography, inspectors said. They later determined that that the sender of the letter was a disgruntled customer of Vetter's Web site.
Vetter's site is no longer operating.

FEDERAL OFFENSE! Could lead to others joining the "fad" and creating a bio public health hazard.
Remember the thread about the guy who got castrated on a kitchen table? Would a perv pay for them? Could they be shipped UPS?
Body parts would be rotting in the warehouses!
The problem , I think, is the incrementalist steps the weirdos would take. Next thing you know, they'll be asking for special body parts rights!
To: Orangedog
I think it was postal regs they got on her on, not the sales, but sending through the U.S. Mail...

You'd think the government would have more important things to do than prosecuting an enterprising young college student over spoiled panties.
Don't they have to prove "criminal intent", or is that only reserved for the real criminals?
To: FormerLurker
She sent the stuff through the mail... so she "knowingly" sent it... ignorance of the law isn't an excuse apparently... she may get jail time the way the federal sentencing guidelines work...

How can you have criminal intent if you don't know the act is a crime? To me, having "criminal intent" hangs upon the fact a person knows an act to be illegal yet does it anyways.
And just when did this law come about, as one could say that MANY people violate this law routinely when they subscribe to Hustler or Penthouse. What about all of the mail orders related to "sex toys"? Do they use UPS to get around this little known "law"?

Hey kids! College students, especially!
Don't send those soiled clothes home to Mom for her to wash for ya!
It's illegal!!!
Hasn't the Postal "Service" or the Feds anything better to do?

Hasn't the Postal "Service" or the Feds anything better to do?
I worked for a guy who co-mingled escrow funds with operating funds. When the cycle stopped suddenly, he was holding a 300k check that belonged to USPS for a post office building. They had to know that us rank-and-file, peon employees had nothing to do with his check bouncing habit. It didn't stop them from grilling everyone, even the delivery driver, for several days. They visibly took a certain amount of personal pleasure from watching each of us squirm. Don't mess with the postal inspectors. To their credit the FBI agents were much nicer. They actually just asked for our help in figuring things out. I am sure you do not want to mess with them either though :-)

I'm not happy about bacteria ridden, biological products, body fluids, secretions, etc bouncing through the mail.
If it was a medical lab sending unlabeled, unsecured specimens, biopsy samples, etc they'd be hung out to dry.
I applaud the Postal Inspectors. This may be a wake up call to others that want to mail their secretions, excretions and various other fluids.

You're right. Don't mess with postal inspectors. Most postal inspectors make the stereotypical machinegun-toting postal worker, teetering at the abyss of madness, look like a candidate for sainthood. They're a nasty lot.

Is it important that she's a Clemson grad? Is soiled underwear a degree program at Clemson or something?

If she was selling her friends underwear, it would explain the disgruntled customer.

True story - I used to work with a former stripper, and she had a similar webite. She would send out her paid for panties, sprinkled with the juice that comes out of a can of tuna (ya can't make this stuff up).

While the federal government is snooping through the mail looking for panties, our borders remain wide open for the enemies of America to walk across.
That's okay though. Reichland security is working on a plan to make us all safe. They'll just take away more of our Rights.

Did "customers" who paid extra get the juice from two cans of tuna?

Christine Vetter and a friend, courtesy of the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. While I want nothing to do with er dirty panties, she definately scores an 8 out of 10 on the "cuteness" factor.
I feel sorry for this girl. With as many of these "used panties for sale" sites that are out there, she probably had no idea what she was doing was illegal (yeah, I know, ignorance of the law, blah, blah, blah).
Now she is humiliated and has her name and face in the papers, her reputation tarnished and her standing as a law-abiding citizen ruined for what she had assumed would be a very personal and private transaction to raise some money.
I think the guy who ratted her out is a pencil-dicked asshole and I hope that the Laws of Karma strike him tenfold.
