[history]
Michael Norman, who in his "semi-retired" spare time enjoys turning discarded computers into functioning tools, often donating them to poor schoolchildren, has happened across the carcass of one eye-opening machine in a Dumpster next to a Dunkin' Donuts in Schaumburg, Ill.

If the code name was John or Paul, they would have been right out to pick it up and investigate.

"Scorched Earth," And meanwhile, the largest wildfires seen in a long time are raging - some of them already established as set fires.
Just a coincidence, another muslim hotspot, Indonesia, suffered king-size fires a few years ago.

Norman ought to call the FBI back and tell them he found a hard drive with evidence of "hate speech."

To: rface
Disinterested because they already know that John Doe Nr. 2 does not exist.
Just move along...

His frustration is understandable and justified. I think I would have kept calling until I found someone to listen to me, though.
To: rface
Now, just what makes you think the FBI cares anything about this? Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Mohammad Imran (L) and Mohammad Hanif, members of the banned Islamic militant Harkat-ul-Mujahideen group, are escorted by Pakistani soldiers in Karachi July 8, 2002. The two were arrested over a series of deadly bomb attacks including one last month on the U.S. consulate in Karachi, the head of the investigating force said.

Didn't the guy in Las Vegas who supposedly overheard a satellite phone conversation get the same run around from the FBI?
He contacted the local TV news and then, voila, the FBI took an interest.
Probably the same thing will happen now that this man's info has been publicized, the FBI will decide that it's worth investigating.

The FBI . . . Let's gut it and start over.
To: mountaineer
When I called the FBI to report something, they were quite polite and attentive to my report. I did not feel that I was being brushed off, nor did I get called a crackpot.
Maybe it is the Illinois branch. He should call the folks at the branch in Indianapolis.
To: rface
A few hours later he called the FBI again. This time another woman listened to his story and commented about the number of "crackpots" in the world. She dismissed the call. Apparently there will be no FBI report, and certainly no investigation, Mr. Norman says. The Israeli consulate has a field office in Chicago.

True enough. Too bad the govt. agencies supposed to deal with terrorists didn't listen, though.
To: rface
Disinterested? Sure. There are no terrorist elements in the country.
Even that terrorist map is in error. See, it shows al-Qaeda in Ft. Lauderdale, and we know that is not true, because officials there have said so:
Officials debunk report of Florida cell.
Now, repeat after me: There are no terrorists. The government will take care of everything. Go about your business as usual. Repeat.
Repeat until you believe.

There is a file with photographs, one of which shows this person holding an AK-47 rifle. Other pictures show him amidst groups of Arab-type individuals. There are three pictures of him sitting in the pilot's seat in the cockpit of an aircraft. And there are programs on this hard drive relating to airplane and pilot lessons." This is beyond belief. Here we have an American citizen doing what the feds have been asking us to do -- report anything suspicious. But then again, the inviduals in those photos could have been hispanic and we wouldn't want to confuse the two. Or maybe they're just waiting for a search warrant. I give up.

First of all, he needs to make copies of what is on that hard disk and get the data to the Washington Times, Newsmax.com and any other conservative site to insure that copies are all over.
The Washington Times should start opeds based on what is on that hard drive.
Then, Mr Norman should start sending to Newsmax.com, some of the interesting parts.
Then, Newsmax.com can start posting these interesting parts as part of some hard hitting opeds.
He should join Free Republic and start posting what he has found. Then, we can send copies to our friends and others to spread the word.
Are the local cops/sheriff/DA's interested or are they all Cook County Clones in the local government?
If the Former Bureau of Investigation is not interested, go elsewhere.

Norman ought to call the FBI back and tell them he found a hard drive with evidence of "hate speech."
Or that he suspects the user was a SMOKER!!!
To: freeperfromnj
That's just it--this story is beyond belief.
Kinda like the guy in Las Vegas who JUST HAPPENED to overhear a cell phone call IN ARABIC (and JUST HAPPENED to speak Arabic, lucky guy).
I have to believe an amazing number of coincidences, and then believe that this EE-VIL terrorist (who is apparently quite sophisticated) doesn't understand how to sterilize a hard drive before throwing it out.

Norman ought to make copies of that hard drive and sent it to every conservative organization or publication he can think of.
Computer forensic experts can determine the authenticity of the drive.
The FBI couldn't track an elephant in 6 foot of snow!!

"The Israeli consulate has a field office in Chicago."
Maybe, American citizens should start reporting terrorist tips to the Israelis. They might know what to do. Our own people don't.
To: rface
Well, yes, the Attorney General did ask all citizens to report anything unusual directly to the FBI. He even gave the 'phone number. Unfortunately, the Attorney General did not ask for permission from the FBI first. The FBI has many other important things to do. There is the shooting of the innocent guy in Baltimore and, of course, the tens of thousands of files on individuals that the FBI provided for the sewer dwellers in the Clinton White House have to be updated to help blacken Republican candidates in the November elections and extort contributions from just about anybody.
The FBI has begun a crash project collecting dirt on those likely to push a campaign to have J. Edgar's name chiseled off the front of the HQ building and fighting this terrorist activity is, of course, job one. The FBI has much better things to do than following up on every crank who calls. Unless, of course, he provides information that might have prevented some disaster and then, the FBI will have all sorts of resources to cover up another failure in judgment.

First of all, he needs to make copies of what is on that hard disk and get the data to the Washington Times, Newsmax.com and any other conservative site to insure that copies are all over. He should also make several other copies, and stash them with trusted friends. Then burn a copy of the data onto a CD. If and when the FBI comes to ask for the drive, he can give them the "backup", too. Then wait and see if the data gets "lost".

The hit list was allegedly approved at a se cret meeting held on April 4, 1996 and it included the name of the
former Director of Intelligence and Security, the late
Major General Imran Kombe.
Mr Kombe was gunned down by policemen in 1996 after being trailed from Dar-es- Salaam through Arusha to his Moshi home, where he was shot at point blank even as he raised his arms in surrender. The government later claimed it was a case of mistaken identity as the policemen were trailing a notorious car-jacker.

Norman ought to call the FBI back and tell them he found: additional files of theirs that Hillary misplaced. That might get a reaction.
To: 300winmag
Thanks for posting about CD's. That was what I had meant to post and due to a coffee shortage, I didn't post CDS.
As good as this guy is with computers, he has to have a CD burner and can make a lot of CD copies.
If and when he turns this over, he can inform the Former Bureau of Investigation that a lot of CD's are out all over the country. So if the hard disk "Gets Lost", it is not a big deal.
He could send one dozen cds to 12 friends and ask them to send copies to 12 friends and they do the same. If that is done, in a week a lot of people will have that data on those CDS.
