Hoffman & Edelson, LLC Announces Class Action Lawsuit Against Halliburton Company DOYLESTOWN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2002--Hoffman & Edelson, LLC today announced that it has filed a class action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas on behalf of purchasers of the securities of Halliburton Company ("Halliburton" or the "Company") (NYSE:HAL - News) during the period from July 22, 1999 through May 28, 2002, inclusive (the "Class Period").
The complaint charges that Halliburton violated Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 promulgated thereunder, by issuing a series of materially false and misleading statements to the market between July 22, 1999 and May 28, 2002. As alleged in the complaint, beginning in the fourth quarter of 1998, unbeknownst to the public, Halliburton materially changed its revenue recognition policy to recognize revenue on claims and change orders relating to cost-overruns which its clients had not approved. Previously, the Company would only recognize revenue on approved change orders or claims. The Complaint further alleges that the alteration of the Company's accounting policy and financial results reported as a result thereof throughout the Class Period were materially false and misleading and in violation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP") because, among other things, the accounting change was not disclosed to the public or supported as the preferred accounting treatment in the Company's financial statements and because collection of the claims or change orders was not probable and the amounts involved could not be estimated reliably. As a result of these violations of GAAP, according to the complaint, the Company's quarterly and annual earnings press releases and financial reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") throughout the Class Period were materially false and misleading and artificially inflated the Company's reported revenues and earnings, thereby artificially inflating the price of Halliburton securities. On May 28, 2002, after the close of the market, Halliburton issued a press release announcing that the SEC had begun an investigation into its accounting for cost overruns. In reaction to the press release, the price of Halliburton common stock dropped by 3.3% on May 29, 2002 on extremely heavy trading volume.
If you purchased the publicly traded securities of Halliburton during the Class Period, you may, no later than Friday, August 2, 2002, request that the Court appoint you as lead plaintiff. A lead plaintiff is a representative party that acts on behalf of other class members in directing the litigation. In order to be appointed lead plaintiff, you must meet certain legal requirements. Your ability to share in any recovery is not, however, affected by the decision whether or not to serve as lead plaintiff. You may retain Hoffman & Edelson, LLC, or other counsel of your choice, to serve as your counsel in this action.
If you wish to discuss this action or have any questions concerning this notice or your rights with respect to this matter, please contact Jerold B. Hoffman at Hoffman & Edelson, LLC, 45 W. Court Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 at 877/537-6532 (toll free), fax number 215/230-8735 or by e-mail at jhoffman@hofedlaw.com.

This isn't the Klayman suit, but it sure looks like he started something, or the timing is awfully fishy

Maybe there's actually something to this?

Look at this! Seems Klayman has company. Want to bet there is a tie in with these lawyers and the RATS?

Nah, I think it's a tagalong filing. Kind of blackmail. They know Cheney doesn't need Two suits or people will start to think "smoke, fire" so Halliburton may pay big to without even a trial, to settle this. They may be willing to part with some cash to avoid bringing down the VP. Like I said, blackmail. The class members will get a dollar apiece and the filing lawyers will get ten million dollars apiece.
Seems fair to me ;')
To: bloggerjohn
This is being done to embarrass this Administration plain and simple and you are going to find RAT fingerprints all over it.
I hope Halliburton fights this instead of giving into blackmail to a bunch of lowlife attorneys.
Why didn't they go after Global Crossing that is tied into the DemocRATS and McAuliffe? No they would rather go after a company that VP Cheney was involved with.
Don't know who has less ethics -- lawyers or journalists!

Drug Firms Accused of Fraud
December 20, 2001
A coalition of consumer groups has filed a class action lawsuit charging 28 pharmaceutical companies with defrauding Medicare patients by inflating the prices of drugs sold to the government program.
The suit was filed in Boston federal court by the Prescription Drug Access Litigation Project, an umbrella organization that has led 25 lawsuits against drug companies this year. It estimates that Medicare and individual consumers were overcharged by more than $800 million in 2000.
A substantial list of drugs that have been the subject of this practice has been compiled. Please call Marc H. Edelson, Esquire or Alan V. Klein, Esquire of Hoffman & Edelson, LLC at (215) 230-8043 if you are interested in determining whether a medication you were prescribed and paid for is the subject of this litigation.
