Even if the Claymore is pointed the right way, how close do you want to be to the back of a Claymore when it goes off? I think I'd like to be standing more than a couple feet away unless I am wearing some serious shin guards!

It includes a videotape and printed information to help businesses . . . survive robberies

So would the videotape and printed information be made of kevlar, perhaps?

REPORTER, n. A writer who guesses his way to the truth and dispels it with a tempest of words.

"More dear than all my bosom knows, O thou
Whose 'lips are sealed' and will not disavow!"
So sang the blithe reporter-man as grew
Beneath his hand the leg-long "interview."

If any of you are in the Houston area where this took place, here's what needs to be done (Tampa too). Contact the PD, have them put together a firearms training class for all the store owners and citizens. PUBLICISE IT! In the paper, storefronts, telephone pole hand bills. Especially in the area of the crimes, Big front page headlines, "Store Owners Trained In Gun Use" lots of pictures. Guaranteed immediate reduction in crime, this technique has been used, endorsed and proven in a number of cities across the nation.

Many years ago when I was with a large Central Texas police department I observed an interesting phenomenon. It was then in vogue to rob liquor stores. The local criminal element would do a rash of liquor store robberies, until some store owner proceeded to remove the perp from the list of the living with a high velocity projectile throwing device. For the next few months liquor stores were safe as baby carriages. Then the cycle would repeat. The moral? Criminals aren't stupid, just forgetful.

I'm not so sure that the Claymore really scared away potential robbers, given that it looks very much like a giant "Moon Pie"...........

Oh, I don't know. Doing what you suggest would spoil many a well-deserved "sooprahz"......

Ya. There is an all night drug store in a bad section of my town. The owner has taken out about 6 perps over the years --- all clean shots. They all are about 5 years apart. It seems every new generation has to learn for themselves.

City Councilman Gordon Quan said that is not the city's official Police Department policy. Guns, he said, are not recommended for use in convenience stores.

Mr. Quan, prehaps when you are thrown out of office you should own and operate a 7-11 and post a sign in your window: "Clerk is proudly unarmed."

What a nitwit.

Ooops. Wrong mine. We never used those in the Green-Water Navy in my day.

But the Claymore does look like a boom-box........
