summer, I kept meaning to ask you: Do you teach "bilingual" classes? I ask because my wife is a bilingual elementary school teacher here in Texas (second grade), and is actually finishing her M.Ed. in Bilingual Education.
You and she probably have a lot of notes you could compare.

summer, if I recall correctly, during the Florida debacle, when some Rats brought up voting cards to a secreted place so they could "count them," was it not Hispanic Flordians who stormed the doors? And if I am also correct, they, the Hispanic population, came out in droves in support of President Bush? Or am I wrong here?

I really don't recall, but it would not surprise me if you were correct - GW certainly had some Hispanic support in FL.

I did a little search and, yep:
But what really may have given the canvassing board pause was a sight that strikes fear in any Florida politician, especially elected Dade County judges like Lawrence King, the board's chairman: angry Cuban voters. They marched on the Clark Center after a conservative radio station, Radio Mambí, broadcast interviews with two Cuban-American G.O.P. members of Congress, Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who decried the board's moves. For Miami's Cubans, almost 80% of whom voted for Bush, this election is mostly about avenging Elián González. . .

and read here (not a flattering article, btw):
Cuban radio stations in Miami that day had also warned listeners that Democrats were poised to steal the election. Listeners were told that by opting not to do a full manual recount, their heavily Republican districts in Little Havana and Hialeah wouldn't be included.
* * *
By mid-morning an angry crowd had gathered outside the government building. The crowd included top Republicans, including local Cuban-American members of Congress Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Lincoln Diaz-Balart.

I'm sure there's more articles, somewhere, and some that tell more of the truth than these more biased, leftist articles. My point, however, is that Jeb Bush and his policies have obviously had a major (positive) impact on how the Hispanics of Florida perceive a better, and more honorable, way to live: you work hard, don't expect hand outs, you get rewarded intrinsically and through mutual respect. No one is denegrated to subservience off government largesse, something the Rats want for all.

mid afternoon bump!
To: summer
Thanks for the ping summer!
I've never understood why Hispanics vote Democratic when, from what I understand, they lead lives that are much more in tune with conservative values. I'm ecstatic over the emerging trend of Florida's Hispanics going for Jeb. Maybe the horrific truth of what the Democratic party actually stands for and wants for this nation is beginning to sink in.
I am worried about Texas, tho...
