Mr. Blair should take a closer look at the Swiss and their crime rates. I read somewhere that Hitler, the guy who was nuts enough to invade Russia in the winter, was easily persuaded NOT to invade Switzerland, where every man has a military style weapon when he's enlisted in the national guard (and I think they let him keep it if he wants to when he retires), and every home has a year's supply of food and water.

I live in NYC--I think our crime rate has gone down because arrests have been stepped up, parole restricted, 3 strikes policy, etc. Guiliani also instituted a quality of life program whereby graffiti, noise complaints, turnstile jumping were all treated seriously under the premise that people who commit low level crimes also commit serious crimes--turns out that alot of turnstile jumpers and other small time lawbreakers had outstanding warrants on other crimes.

Yes. This seems to be the 400 pound gorilla in the room that this article took great pains to ignore.

While gun-confiscation plays a role in the escalating crime rate --simply because victims cannot protect themselves, the real (albeit unmentionable) cause is immigrants who have resisted assimilation. I'd be willing to bet that on a per-capita basis, the majority of Britain's criminals do not speak the Queen's English as their primary language.

The media will never mention this --except possibly to make excuses for such behavior.

They don't just let him keep it, they require him to keep it, in good working order, for a number of years, 10 I think. I would guess that in addition to low crime, Switzerland also has no problem with illegal immigration. One would think that their neighbors, the French, would learn by example, but no, the French are too busy searching for answers in the scribblings of Marx and Sartre.
