United States will soon own title/crown thanks to the fat police and their War on Obesity, or is that the food police and War on Junk Food? Sigh... I just can't keep track of all these police-State wars against people.

Well, it's not just socialism.
Let's face it, the real culprit is "diversity".
To: Phillip Augustus
the real culprit is "diversity". And the soft-headed notions of moral relativism and post-modernism behind "political correctness." It all ties together.
To: Shermy
Experts say this is the result of a committed policy of ploughing resources into training prisoners, finding them jobs after release and then monitoring them to ensure they do not reoffend. That's a lie
Where's the lie? I'm sure it's true that experts say that reduced crime rates result from a committed policy of plowing resources into hiring experts.

Exactly. And you know what the cure is...more diversity, more moral relativism, more political correctness, and more post-modernism. Oh, and reparations.

"The findings are expected to cause further embarrassment to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who has pledged to have street crime under control by September."Mr. Blair should take a closer look at the Swiss and their crime rates. I read somewhere that Hitler, the guy who was nuts enough to invade Russia in the winter, was easily persuaded NOT to invade Switzerland, where every man has a military style weapon when he's enlisted in the national guard (and I think they let him keep it if he wants to when he retires), and every home has a year's supply of food and water.
I'll bet no one dares to be so rude as to pick the pocket of a guy carrying a machine gun.

I live in NYC--I think our crime rate has gone down because arrests have been stepped up, parole restricted, 3 strikes policy, etc. Guiliani also instituted a quality of life program whereby graffiti, noise complaints, turnstile jumping were all treated seriously under the premise that people who commit low level crimes also commit serious crimes--turns out that alot of turnstile jumpers and other small time lawbreakers had outstanding warrants on other crimes.
To: Torie
I think the murder rate is much lower in Britain than the US, but I could be wrong. I seem to recall some flap about that. Bump for an answer.

"...Sophie Goodchild..."
Isn't she one of the love children from James Bond and "Pussy Galore"? Or was that "Tattoo Me Quickley"?

Let's face it, the real culprit is "diversity". Yes. This seems to be the 400 pound gorilla in the room that this article took great pains to ignore.
While gun-confiscation plays a role in the escalating crime rate --simply because victims cannot protect themselves, the real (albeit unmentionable) cause is immigrants who have resisted assimilation. I'd be willing to bet that on a per-capita basis, the majority of Britain's criminals do not speak the Queen's English as their primary language.
The media will never mention this --except possibly to make excuses for such behavior.

Switzerland, where every man has a military style weapon when he's enlisted in the national guard (and I think they let him keep it if he wants to when he retires) They don't just let him keep it, they require him to keep it, in good working order, for a number of years, 10 I think. I would guess that in addition to low crime, Switzerland also has no problem with illegal immigration. One would think that their neighbors, the French, would learn by example, but no, the French are too busy searching for answers in the scribblings of Marx and Sartre.

The invasion lasted INTO winter. But you were correct on the nuts part.

It's very interesting to find
both Great Britian and Australia mentioned by name as leading crime nations. Let's see now...what do those two nations have in common that might affect crime stats? Oh, yeah...that's right, they had their guns taken away.

Why do the British want to raise crime and leave their citizens defenseless?
