You asked blam, but may I add, Steve Quayle last night, Jan. 14, 2004, said the Australian government had, or is sending a group to investigate. May be more at www.stevequayle.com.

"now that I finally noticed the date of this article, did they ever publish the findings on their find?"

Nope. Not a peep.

Here's another article from the same time frame as the original post, but no where near as imaginative as the one grizz picked up at Tinfoil HQ. ;->

No mention of the size of the skeleton.

Yes, it does, blam:

Discovered by 15 University of the South Pacific geography students at Moturiki Island, the two-metre skeleton is believed to be of Solomon Islands origin.

My thinking: The other article came from the Times of India. All things being relative, a 2 metre skeleton in India probably is considered a giant. But not so remarkable in Polynesia, maybe?

Heyerdahl's reed boat, the Ra II, sailed from Safi in Morocco to Barbados in 57 days in 1970, proving that reed boats could cross the Atlantic. He tried to sail a larger one, the Tigris, from Mesopotamia to Egypt, in 1978, but was stopped in the Red Sea and not allowed to continue.

You don't get to feel "vastly superior" until you have, not just a Ph.D., but a post-doc fellowship. With an MA, "snotty" is all you're allowed. ;^)

Once a cowboy always a cowboy. I married a cowboy 45 years ago & he is still a cowboy. I don't like the use of the word cowboy in a derogative way. It show how little some people know. Everything this guy thinks he knows about cowboys he learned at the movies.

Thor Heyerdahl sailed a balsa raft from Peru to Polynesia, not a reed boat.

This is called confabulation. Heyerdahl actually DID sail a reed boat... the Ra... but it was sailed from Morocco almost to Barbados (The almost because they had to abandon the craft short of their destination when it was obvious it would sink before arrival).

It is really surprising, in this day and age of internet fact checking, that the author could not find this little tidbit and report it correctly.

Heard Steve Quayle talk about this on Coast-to-Coast last night, heard they had skeletons, and one caller said they saw one in Mexico at a auto parts "junk yard", like 12 feet tall, grunted, and liked coca-cola.

Trip out!

Vikings had everything everybody else had. If it wasn't nailed down. And sometimes even if it was.

Thanks for provoking the best chuckle I've had this evening.

There are neo-Vikings in our midst: they are usually most active around April 15th.

6'2" was pretty tall 3,000 years ago.

But it's not "pretty tall" today. So some guy was in the upper 2 percential of the height bell curve 3,000 years ago. What's the big deal?

BTW. With a diet and living conditions not too different than 3,000 years ago, George Washington was 6'2" .

Modern polynesians are amongst the largest people on earth. There is nothing unusual about a big skeleton in that part of the world.

The article is an interesting read until you get to the following quote near the end:

"This is definitely a current UFO Base used by Aliens."

Hmmm. I can't consider this a credible source of any of its information.

This "giant" is only 1.9 meters tall. Not too implausible.

Is he sure that he didn't get loaded one night and stumble across the Edoras set from Lord of the Rings?

A 6' 2" skeleton in this area would be considered large but, a 'giant?'

I have seen people from that part of the world, who are that height, that I'd describe a "giant". Not because of their height, but because of their width and robustness. I vividly remember being at a gas station in rural New Zealand, and seeing some sinister-looking teenage Tongan gangsters, who were about 6'2", 400+ pounds, and NOT FAT. Their hands were like baseball gloves. Their necks were larger in diameter than their heads, which were of considerable size themselves. Their fingers resembled sausages. Their calves were as big around as tree trunks.

Tongan women are built like that too!!

I've been to the site of Hobbiton. Beautiful place. The hobbit-holes are just doorways...they don't extend into the hillsides (which are really steep, much steeper than they appear in the film. It was difficult to scramble up to the holes.)
