Interesting observation, but not one I agree with.

It is just too wide of a brush to paint the entire population of United States.

I do not see the comparison between the people portrayed in Cabaret (Germany of the late 1930s) and United States of 2002.

You're kidding, right?

If anything, this culture is more decadent than pre-war Germany -- by an order of magnitude.

I think we are talking apples and oranges. My oringinal thought was I wondered how people in the United States leading up to WWII dealt with it. The fact that we would be involved was there for everyone to see, especially after 1939. You use the movie Cabaret as an example. The fact that this was a movie, and about the Germans between WWI and WWII does not address my question about the United State between 1939 and 1941.

If the United States of 2002 is more decadent than the Germany of 1939 is beside the point, since whatever level of decandes we may be at, it is NOT the result of the coming war with Iraq.

Oh come on now. You're moving the goalposts, changing the terms halfway into the debate. Your initial comment specifically addressed the issues I answered:

At one time I wondered what it was like living in the time just before WWII. Life goes on as normal, but there are signs of the coming war. How did people deal with it?

I belive we are now in that stage.

I think that for whatever reason, you're too highly vested in this discussion. I'm outta here, find someone else to bicker with.

Sorry Don Joe,

It may have been my poor communications skill.

Sometimes when we write something, it does not come out the way you are thinking it. I will try harder to make my self clearer in the future. It was nice "talking" to you.
