I have been aghast by not only the size, but the extent of the corporate corruption. From CEO compensation, old boy corporate boards, the lack of any sense of integrity and honor, outright lying, backroom deals, the complicity of the accountants and bankers and the brazen fraud has left me questioning everything and very cynical about the state of not just the financial system but the whole country. When we were yelling, "character counts", no one was listening. Is it all simply about celebrity and money? Where and when did we lose our common everyday sense of values, decency and moral bearing?
I've wondered about Ken Lay, Andy Fastow, and Jeff Skilling. They are at the top of my list. Maybe we will see some progress now that Enron has been tied to JPM and Citigroup. Talk about a criminal conspiracy. "Scandal" is not a large enough word to describe that mass of criminal activity.
We have to strip the guilty parties of the rewards of the frauds and jail those responsible. To do less will only reinforce the culture of greed and decay of our society.
