Battles over racist symbols usually involve Southerners defiantly defending their Confederate banners.
I always dismiss their claims of Southern pride as little more than a front for racism. Then they threaten to beat me to a pulp. And on it goes.

This makes any protest not against the song itself, or even the original artist, but because of the link to blackface performances. This guilt by association expands the racism net too large for me
You mean he has a limit?!? Having seen the articles that come out of the Slantinel, I'm sure he has been reprimanded severely and needs to be reindoctrinated in the 'Asa' truths. I applaud the Maitland Pops for standing up to the PC crowd

Perhaps choir member Denise Beumer was a bit too sensitive.
Even so, music director Dale Burke should have recognized her concern, used good manners and common sense, quietly resolved the issue and replaced the song.
Perhaps one person was being too sensitive but the director should deprive the entire audience from hearing the song? That's PC censorship at it's worst!
Bigger than this from "Shallow Hal"?
