A 21st C version of the Chrysler Building would look good downtown;no doubt, Helmut Jahn or Norman Foster could design something spectacular that would be more appropriate to Manhattan than say Hong Kong or Shanghai.NYC needs that becon to impact the skyline and I just wish the bureaucratic impulse to homogonize could be removed from this whole redevelopment.

I was wondering about that too; if they can knock planes out of the air with sound waves, what will that do to cars on the ground and the boats in the harbor and...people's ears?

Or the other tall structures around them.

I actually got the impression of those little huts they have in the warm ocean areas on stilts. Just oversized stilts.

Well, that's my problem with this design. Not that it's too tall(I like tall). It's too damn fat! The scale is all wrong, it's clumsy not graceful.

We need to think in terms of spires and not chunky blocks.

Wow! That thing is cool! I like it!

But also bear in mind that I'm really stoned right now ;0)

As I have said before, I am definitely no expert or even a novice in architecture designs.

I just believe that the 6 designs that have gotten media coverage is just wrong. WIMPY!

They remind me of silos, all tied together, complete with a peaked top.

I agree with you, but this is not the "seventh design", and no amount of wishful thinking or online polling on the part of the designer will make it so.

In some ways, this Turner thing resembles the Beauborg in Paris or Lloyd's of London's headquarters...you think it may better be suited as a power plant design ;-)Sleek, elegant, eye catching, AWE inspiring....words I hope John Whitehead would remember everytime he and the Port Authority mull over the plans.

This should be the most dazzling office complex in the world. To make it into another Canary Wharf is pointless.

That pyramid on top would hinder any attempt at a rooftop helicopter evacuation.

I like it because it's bigger and taller. Anything bigger and taller has my vote.

Thanks isthisnickcool - I sure hope the final design speaks volumes for all Americans.

I like the enclosed living memorial. I like the solar panels, water purification and desalinization. The idea of redundant exit plans is quite original. I like the fact that it's BIGGER than the old WTC...the security looks good, but I'd prefer the addition of manned artillary on the roofs. (Sorry)

I does look a little like a habitrail, but I think it looks more like a Victorian Era concept design, which I happen to like.

Finally, it's a hecuvalot better than the greasy-spoon, salt and pepper style of the other proposals. At LEAST it has CHARACTER. Oh, nice presentation, too.

I voted for it.

I hate Flash - keeps you from posting pictures in any sort of convenient way. Nevertheless, here's a couple of screen caps:

For some reason the first thing I thought of when I saw it was Madonna's bullet bra.

The first thing it reminded me of was one of those caddies you use for poker chips...

Thumbs-down.

"Daring is a good word for it."

Yes it is. When I voted against Bloomie's choices last week, THIS concept wasn't even on the list. Apparently it made it into rhe running because at the time I voted, something like 70% "disliked 'em all."

I emailed a description and a link to the presentation to several people I know who'd be interested, and requested they forward the link to everyone on their contact lists.

"Then again, I haven't seen any plan that I like."

Me either, but this is the best I've seen so far. I imagine there is plenty of leeway for minor alteration. Actually, the profile of the building reminds me a little of the tower of Big Ben. That's a start.

That last pic on the bottom of your post DOES look like a poker chip caddy.

Maybe he can change the design somewhat....

Why don't we have more choices?

I mean....WHY HASN'T EVERY SINGLE ARCHITECT IN THE COUNTRY SUBMITTED THEIR MOST VISIONARY DESIGNS???

Hmmmm....I think I'll start a Google search and see if there are any other designs out there that we haven't heard about yet.
