For some reason the first thing I thought of when I saw it was Madonna's bullet bra. The first thing it reminded me of was one of those caddies you use for poker chips...
It ALSO looks like a few sticks of dynamite wired together...

i do like the twin peaks theme music. maybe we're all trying to hard to make WTC2 the monument of all monuments. i'd love to see something more retro and graceful like the empire, chrysler and woolworth buildings. it would be a rebirth of NYC as it was in the beginning. those buildings have spires reaching for the heavens. the most eloquent memorial so far were the lights swaying and shining 1000's of feet into the sky which we did have a few months ago.

...They may not know how to SPELL "design" but they recieved quite a few. Most are a little disappointing.

The following 35 slides show artists' designs for the World Trade Center site that are on exhibit at the Max Protetch Gallery in Manhattan. Let us know which one is your favorite. Click on the "Vote For This Design" link on each slide to vote. You will see the 35 choices that relate to the numbered photo in the slide show. Choose the number of the photo that would be your choice.

I personally prefer the rebuilding photo where the buildings were in line like your fingers with the middle building being the focal point of a wonderful salute to terrorists and their sympathizers alike. That's just me!

Well...having just gone through every slide of proposed WTC memorial/rebuilds...I saw one design that looked like a crushed aluminum can and another that looked like a crumpled potato chip bag. There was a really ugly looking black swiss cheese design...and, oh...the eight round towers that look like intestinal parasites and the Pugmussian blood sucking slug were stupid, insulting to the memories of the dead AND to all Americans everywhere.
The rest were pedestrian salt boxes.
Habitrail or not, Turner's basic idea is better than those in the slideshow.

The security is scifi'ish. Five mile sound barriers. 3D body scans.....some really out there stuffActually I think it was a 5 mile no-fly zone and closer sound barriers. Generally, the physical security measures are ridiculous - but the protected central tower has some merit, though I think the designer would be shocked in a few years to learn there are people living and even running "undocumented jobs" (ie: prostitution and scavenging) there.
I actually gave them a yes vote. It's beautiful, gutsy and has vision.

My design concept--perhaps someone can tell me if this is feasible--would be to have a fairly convention 80-or-so story building, with a tower on top that would house a restaurant, viewing area, broadcast equipment, and possibly a small hotel. The trusswork of the tower should be designed so that in the event of catastrophic failure it will absorb enough kinetic energy from the falling top section to avoid pancaking the building below.
Such a building should be table to take over the claim of "world's tallest building" while at the same time posing limitted risk of terrorist attacks (since even if the terrorists did destroy the upper part there would be many fewer people there than in the WTC).
Anyone else like the concept?

I really like this design. At least at the conceptual phase, it seems to be well-planned. However, like any plan as grand as this, it has the potential of giving engineers some fits.
What I like most about this is the spirit behind the concept, that no act of terror can destroy the pride and determination of the American people.

What I like most about this is the spirit behind the concept, that no act of terror can destroy the pride and determination of the American people.Which brings up an interesting point: while this design has plenty of safety built in (disregarding the idiocy about sound waves), having some modularity to the design - so destroyed pieces can be quickly and easily rebuilt - is a good idea.
And maybe an execution chamber for convicted terrorists in the pyramid.

Remindes me of this:
The Detroit Renaissance Center.
I have stayed there several times and it is awful. It is confusing as heck to get around in. You constantly have to go up or down to get to a level that you can change towers in and then go back up or down. The main level is a series of rings within rings which makes it easy to get lost.
