Well, I know all of you are multi-talented contributors to the Canteen. No, I don't dance. Ha, ha, ha!!!! Ask my hubby - and he can also tell you that I am a gal!!! LOL!!!

I can clean up so me and Kathy in Alaska will help in the cleanup (I also mess up well - but that probably doesn't help).

And I can listen well, pray if called upon, and write letters if needed. Maybe some of those things are needed here occasionally. I'm sort of your old Aunt Maude type of person...who does like to "go out to eat!!!" more than to cook!!! (since I do make such a mess).

And the only skwerrells I like are the ones running around outside my back window in the trees behind my house .... not ones that end up in stews and things!

Don't worry! The bug was the opposite gender of you, Cobby! It was a hug from a non-homo bug! Would I send any other kind to give you boyz a hug??? Hasn't Misty told you how homophobic I am? Sheesh, she's broadcast it to everybody else!

I can give you a regular {{{HUG}}} because you are one of the Boyz and I'm a 100% non-homo Gurl!

There's no doubt in my military mind as to who greeted Rocky Versace when he came a meandering into Valhalla's Hall of Heroes, far removed from the weary woes of this world.

I expect the old soldiers have a good many things to discuss regarding their time on this world, very little of it having to do with their time spent on military matters. But the old Vikings believed that so long as they were remembered by those of us here, and so long as the songs of their exploits continued to be sung, they'd remain in Valhalla with their brother warriors.

Bunny, Rocky needs a song of his own....

If I had a nickel for all the sons and daughters of friends in my little town who've joined the military in the last 3 or 4 years, well...

I guess I've lived in California too long. It's easy to lose hope out here. . .

If you don't know Rodger Young's story, I'd be glad to fiill you in. He was a tough little guy, and literally didn't know the meaning of the word quit.

Here's the part that counts:

Young, Rodger W., Private,
148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division (the Ohio Buckeyes);
born Tiffin, Ohio, 28 April 1918; died 31 July 1943,
on the island of New Georgia, Solomons, South Pacific, while singlehandedly attacking and destroying an enemy machine-gun pillbox. His platoon had been pinned down by intense fire from this pillbox; Private Young was wounded in the first burst. He crawled toward the pillbox, was wounded a second time but continued to advance, firing his rifle as he did so. He closed on the pillbox, attacked and destroyed it with hand grenades, but in so doing he was wounded a third time and killed.

His bold and gallant action in the face of overwhelming odds enabled his teammates to escape without loss; he was awarded posthumously the Medal of Honor.
