Somalia was Clinton's Bay of Pigs. Saying it was Bush's fault is like saying Bay of Pigs was Eisenhower's fault. Like Kennedy, Clinton didn't have to foritude to support a popular campaign.

Oh, this makes the nerves twitch. I wish this man would just shut up and go away.

What a sick disgrace that such a man ever held the presidency.

Clinton's just thrilled that the cameras are pointed his way once again. It makes me so happy to know that he is miserable in his obscurity.

"Techniquely speaking, roughly 30% of the voting pubic would vote for him again. I doubt whether he'd be able to drum up another 13% in a three way race the way he did in '92 and '95."

With the help of the print/boob-tube media (which happens to be Bubba-Boy personal PR machine,) convincing another 13%-20% to vote for him would be a piece of cake IMO. Heck -- even Gore, the human mannequin got 50.1% last time out...

When Hillary runs, it's gonna be an absolute WAR!

Bill Clintons actions are responsible for the death of those soldiers in Somolia. Bill Clinton is a liar.

It would be so nice if the Medal of Honor Winner's father who refused to shake the hand of X42 would write a letter to the editor of all the major newspapers in this country. He would have credibility and heartstring pull. He has suffered greatly already in having lost a child and it would be tough to do, but I still hope he will.

X42 is so despicable.

Did Powell ask for the equipment, or is my memory faulty on that one?

Powell stepped down as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs on September 30th, 1993. It's not likely that he would've been in a position shortly thereafter to make such a request. I'm not sure what position he held directly thereafter; he was probably on leave after such a job.

Post 100 on this thread has a fair generalization of what happened in terms of the request. It would've been the commander of the Somalia operation who would've made the request.

I believe that Les Aspin was a scapegoat, although that's not to say that he disagreed with Clinton in denying the heavy ground armor and AC-130 gunship support. It's something interesting to research! Probably not too hard to find a little more info on it.

He's disgusting, but still very dangerous, because he is running for President of the World, and is very popular among millions of morons.

Thank you for your reply. And, thanks for prodding me into doing a little googling. I was in a hurry when I first posted on this thread, but that's no excuse for not doing the research myself...my bad!

The Ethics of American Military Policy in Africa
David W. Lutz
Front Royal, Virginia, U.S.A.

"In September 1993 U.S. Army General Thomas Montgomery, Commander of U.S. Forces and Deputy U.N. Force Commander in Somalia, requested Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles to reinforce Task Force Ranger. Although Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell supported the request, Secretary of Defense Les Aspin denied it, saying he did not want to create the appearance that the U.S. was increasing forces in Somalia at a time when we were trying to reduce our military presence."

I believe Gen. Garrison made the initial request for equipment from the field. I seemed to recall that Powell did discuss this with Aspin, but I couldn't quite remember, and am still unsure if he actually dicussed it with him face to face. This was before he stepped down.
It would not surprise me if Powell stepped down because of mission creep in Somalia. I'll bet it made him cringe...

Thank you, again!;o)
