Woman sues Delta Airlines, charges public humiliation

CLEARWATER, Fla. (July 27, 2002 1:01 p.m. EDT) - A woman who says she was pulled off an airplane and asked to take a sex toy out of her luggage after it started vibrating is suing Delta Air Lines, saying she was publicly humiliated.

Renee Koutsouradis, 36, said she was with her husband awaiting takeoff from Dallas in February when her name was called over the loudspeaker.

She said she was met by a Delta security agent who told her something was vibrating in one of her bags. She said she explained it was an adult toy that she and her husband had just bought on a trip to Las Vegas.

She said the agent took her to the bag on the tarmac and made her remove the toy and hold it up, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday. Some passengers on the plane saw everything, and three male Delta employees "began laughing hysterically" and made "obnoxious and sexually harassing comments."

Koutsouradis was allowed to repack and return to her seat.

A spokeswoman for Delta would not comment on the specifics of the lawsuit.

"We have an obligation to protect the safety and security of passengers," said spokeswoman Katie Connell. "If there's anything questionable about a bag, we have a responsibility to investigate."

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, accusing Delta of negligence, intentional infliction of distress and gender discrimination.

Koutsouradis' lawyer, Brad Tobin, said Delta agents should have escorted her to a private area.

"She was pretty horrified by the treatment," he said. "She never contended that Delta doesn't have the right to investigate a security issue. It was their total lack of professionalism."

Why should this woman have been "publicly humiliated" upon discovery of such a device? In all the TV commercials and Lillian Carter ads in magazines I've ever seen, they're only used to massage your shoulders and neck. Did the shoulder become an erogenous zone last week?

This woman appears to be a moron and a con artist. Surely even someone with an IQ in the low two digits couldn't possibly expect the security to overlook her bag.

As for being humilitated, she wasn't humiliated but instead the search showed what she's into. And she surely is making sure everyone will know about her sex toy.

The incident sounds like a set up for a law suit, possibly learned at some seminar on "How to sue and get rich quick." She is the one who should be sued.

She probably bought it as a gag gift for one of her friends, who she intended to embarrasses at their b-day party. Look who was embarrassed instead!

If she's embarassed for anyone to know she owns one, she obviously has no business buying it. She needs to grow the heck up.

And she surely is making sure everyone will know about her sex toy.

She sure is. Her complaint alleges that less than half a dozen people (Delta employees) were publically made aware of her sex toy. There is no indication that any of them knew her personally or even knew her name. For all intents and purposes, she was an anonymous person. So what does she do? She files a highly public lawsuit that guarantees that potentially tens of millions of people will know about her sex toy.

But there's potentially big money to be made and that changes everything.

You gotta switch those things "on" don't you? Of course, this was a set-up. She said that the security agent made her hold-the-thing-up. Surely, she didn't think that he was going to touch it did she?

She was so embarrased and traumatized that she's filed a lawsuit. So, filing a lawsuit, and getting national exposure affects the intial embarrasment factor how?

Oh, wait, I understand. It's horribly embarrasing for a a hundred people of so on the plane and a couple of baggage handlers to know you've got a vibrator, but it's not embarrassing at all for a couple of hundred million people across the entire country to know that you have a vibrator. I get it now.

I hope she gets what she deserves, and that's certainly not any sort of payout. This just shows the need for looser pays tort reform, and eliminating "mental anguish."

So the Delta search caused a handful of people to learn that she had a sex toy in her bag. However, it was her own actions -- the lawsuit -- and not Delta's search that caused THE ENTIRE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT IT.

If she is not humiliated because the entire world knows about it, then how humiliated could she have been whan a handful of people learned about it?

Case dismissed!

I doubt that.Something like that wouldn't include batteries when she purchased it.Having batteries in it means that it is ready to be used. She planned on sneaking to the lady's room with it whenever she got on the plane.

No kidding. If she was so 'humiliated' then, when perhaps only a handful of people knew about her proclivities, she surely must have realized a lawsuit would bring the attention of hundreds of millions of people, as of now. It's in all the lamestream news, perhaps she'll be on O'Reilly next?

No,I just know how to put 2 and 2 together.Posession is 9/10's of the law.She ought to just accept the fact she got discovered with it.If she just stuck the damn thing back in her bag, nobody else would even care. Now everybody and her mother will know she likes vibrators.

What's there to be embarassed about? And yeah, I was thinking the same thing... I would never pack my vibe without removing the batteries. Her problem, not Delta's. I mean, it's not like Delta thought "hmmm, we better take her aside to a private area because there's a chance it's a VIBRATOR?" C'mon, get over it lady.

She said the agent took her to the bag on the tarmac and made her remove the toy and hold it up, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday.

I sent this story to my son who is a Delta Pilot. He said in the first place, they would NOT take her to the tarmac. They may bring her suitcase back in and ask her to check it. They find sex toys and all kinds of things in luggage, and it is so common place he doesn't believe the employees laughed either. In short he said she is lying about a lot of her facts. If she thinks this is the first time they have found a sex toy in someones luggage she has another thought coming because it's not.

Maybe the next time they should just call the bomb squad and have the suitcase blown up..

Peaceful Homefront Tip #102

Never, ever, buy AC powered sex toys, stick with the battery operated models.

The AC powered models screw up the TV picture and there is hell to pay if it's football season.

A couple years ago I have this little shaver for cutting lint off of my clothes. My niece had asked if she could borrow it and returned it to me one day when we met for lunch. (I carry a large purse as my husband says I carry everything but the kitchen sink).

I put the shaver in my purse and forgot about it. One Sunday morning in church a lady next to me nudged me and said, " Your purse is buzzing." It took me a second to remember what it was and I got it turned off.

That was embarassing enough.
