Dot com bust rendered dot com dust.

Now thats a keeper! :o)

"Irrational Exuberance" prevails in the markets once again (What are people thinking?). I'd sure rather see a SLOW but steady increase vs this unstable fluctuations! First the highest of highs.. then the lowest of lows!! All the talking heads say the record high yesterday is not based on anything. It happened despite negative news with regard to some companies. Really strange.

The only thing I can figure is they heard O'Neill saying our economy is based on "sound" fundamentals, and that is what the President is focusing on, and BOOM!!... Hungry people started to buy up everything. Strange times.. very strange times.

I think that the street is becoming used to the idea that companies will be signing off on their books and that the overwhelming majority of companies' books are okay. So, I think that they're reacting to the big picture which they think isn't so bad after all.

But, if that FT story about the energy sector is true, and if it adversely affects the financial markets ($450 billion in bad debt), then I still think all bets are off and that we ain't anywhere near the bottom.

But, as of now, I haven't seen anyone else run with that story. Playing wait and see and staying out for now.

Yeah, most freight companies figured that out at some point. Hopefully more efficiency and revenue helps them keep their rates more stable.

I used to work for a wholesaler whose only shipping method was via common carrier. In the 80's and early 90's freight costs soared. Meanwhile, I had local competitors who had their own trucking fleets. It made it difficult to compete. Playing carrier against carrier in the cost game creates carriers that don't give a sh*t about you the customer, which often resulted in damaged goods upon delivery.

Yes, I know that Qwest has many good people there. But, we diverge on the idea that US West was any better. I'm not a fan. I can't get past the lousy customer service and poor ethics.

Best,

jsm
