Personal responsibility was the only way to stop it. Smoking and drinking and doing drugs, you don't always see the harmful side affects right away. But with gambling you do...especially if you keep losing. You notice that you have a lot less money. THE only thing that brings you back is not the bright lights, not this, or not that....the only thing is the person's wish to win money...plain and simple.
On the subject, Christians have become really lazy by advocating and applauding court decisions, ballot measures, and legislation that could "erradicate the evils from our society." Instead of spending their time and effort at an abortion counseling clinic to show people the Love of Christ and that people actually do care for this mother about to make a decision that the Christians feel is a wrong decisions...THAT is what Christianity is all about...not ridding the world of social evils through the ballot box. I know so many people that have stopped their bad and sometimes illegal habits simply because a Christian put effort into caring. Quit bein lazy....start Focusing on the Family and what the family can do to stop these problems.
Otherwise, go easier on the caffeine, read slower, think longer, post later.
A tad unnecessary for someone who promotes himself as a Biblical Christian. A simple "You misunderstood my post" would have sufficed.
Those laws are intended against those who initiate force or inflict harm against others. (BTW, you can probably guess that I'm against DUI checkpoints, but not against arrests for erratic or careless driving.)
"And I remind you as I just reminded another, I myself haven't said a word about gambling, have I?"
No you haven't, but this is a thread about gambling, so references will be toward that end.
You did make one earlier comment that I didn't catch until I went back and reread all of your comments. That being about your deference to a man who mistakes made while pursuing good. As far as one man to another in his ministry, I can agree and overlook or forgive, if necessary. But to make that mistake when it has the force of law, that is where I have a problem and am not so ready to forgive and forget. So as not to confuse anyone or leave it open for conjecture, I'm referring only to actions that do not initiate force or inflict harm on others.
Got a verse on that one for me? (c8
Dan
Matthew 5:21-22.
Just kidding. :)
There may be a verse in II Misgivings, chapter 9, or so....

LOL
I have often thought that prominent "conservatives" have taken "liberal" approaches to solving societal problems. (Let's pass a law that ... or let's hold so-and-so financially responsible for ...)Statists are statists. Whether they are called "liberals" or "conservatives" depends on the nature of their personal peeves and prejudices that they want enshrined into The Law. In this respect there is little difference between Dobson, Wildmon, O'Reilly et al and the Hellary/Daschole/Gephardt bunch.

If you are thinking this . . . you would be correct sir!
I agree about the not nice part, but my realistic skepticism concerning the motives of most women is what has kept my fortune secure.
