Here's to no more of that if-you-favor-drug-legalization-you're-not-a-real-conservative garbage.

Was the War On Drugs ever intended to be won? Or was it only intended to be fought?
To: WindMinstrel
And the conviction that the use of certain drugs is immoral chills the ability to scrutinize rationally and to debate the effects of the drug war. Bingo.

The LP has LOST....but they keep posting the silly legalize drugs crap....and always so LONG WINDED!!!!!
To: WindMinstrel
Well, this is all great, but who is it really going to convince that isn't already?
All that is going to happen here on FR is that Kevin Curry, Cultural Jihad, CA Vawhateverthehheck, LadyDoc, and the rest of the Socialists-in-NeoCon-Clothing Brigade will pop on and use their mystical, magical powers of Strawman Creation, Character Assassination, and Avoiding The Actual Issue to "debate" the article.
Not one of them will
A) Read the entire text of the article.
B) Come up with a well-thought out and reasoned couter-argument.
However, in the world of realpolitik, I think this is going to go a long way towards convincing fence sitters in America what a good idea ending the socialist WoD is...

So are you actually going to address the National Review piece on a point by point debate, or are you going to snivle about the tide turning against you?

are you really so poorly read that you don't know what National Review is?

And, now that you have called them in and goaded them, a few anti-WOD posters will then complain about the resultant food fight. Takes two to tango in this viper's dance (oh, and BTW, I am anti-WOD)...

The LP is long winded? Actually, the long-windedness here comes from a CONSERVATIVE publication.
Next will be the accusations that libertarians are all dopeheads - I can hardly wait. Then libertarians will be accused of being porn hounds, promoters of prostitution, and purveyors of all manner of other social ills.
I never knew they were so evil until I started reading the WOD threads on FR. (/sarcasm)
And I am a conservative Republican, same as William F. Buckley.
To: WindMinstrel
Too much logic!!! (head hurting!) Doesn't matter!!! Drugs are bad because I feel they are bad! I won't debate this point (because I can't). If you insist on calling me on my position I will call you names - you've been warned!

Try debating the points presented in the article smart guy . . .

The LP has LOST....but they keep posting the silly legalize drugs crap....and always so LONG WINDED!!!!!Please show which of the seven writers in this column are members of the LP. William F. Buckely. We are joined in our judgment by Ethan A. Nadelmann, a scholar and researcher; Kurt Schmoke, a mayor and former prosecutor; Joseph D. McNamara, a former police chief; Robert W. Sweet, a federal judge and former prosecutor; Thomas Szasz, a psychiatrist; and Steven B. Duke, a law professor. Looks like a pretty broad cross-section.
Trying to trivialize calls to change the drug war by claiming they are only made by LP members is asinine. And sorry about the long-winded part, maybe someone can post a nice short article that your attention span can manage...

Buckley can hardly be considered objective on this issue.

It hasn't been a war on drugs for a long time, prohibition is just a revenue enhancement scheme for our politicans. They profit from both the supply and enforcement sides.
For some reason the media is being allowed to question the powers that be lately, as long as they stay within the limits. An examination of Asa's handling of the Mena/Seals operation is still verboten tho.
