Al-Rhazes was Persian, but may not have been Islamic (Zoroastrianism still exists although suppressed in Iran.)
Many of the so-called "Arab" contributions were actually lifted from India (note even the Arab mathematician gave the numerals their proper attribution - the Hindu numerals), China, or the Byzantine Empire. The Arabs did spread a lot of culture around because of their role as traders and travellers across the Mideast and the "Silk Road." But to consider them the chief instigators and innovators is just not correct.
Also, many of the most creative and innovative Muslims were not Arab at all, but rather Persian Sufis, who were almost continually criticized for being too "liberal."
This headscarf thing is really beginning to bug me, too. Many women in various Muslim countries didn't wear hijab until they were *forced into it* by wahhabists. Turkish and Bosnian women don't wear head coverings at all. Educated Kuwaiti, Pakistani, and Afghan women in the 60s and 70s *used* to wear just light gauze scarves that rested on top of the hair and actually looked attractive. After the invasion of wahhabists, they went to head-to-toe coverings.
It is really terrible that the "public face" of Islam in the US is getting taken over by rigid, puritanical, cover-them-head-to-toe wahhabism.
You said, "Except for Jews." True enough, but let's expand that to "non-muslims." The most consistent interpretation of Q'uran informs us that all of the 'civilised' customs and dispensations are reserved for muslims ONLY. Non-believers - infidels - are fair game for slaughter and any atrocity that can be mustered agaisnt them. This is a war of civilizations, and it's a brutal and fatal shame that our erstwhile 'leadership' refuses to recognize that. And the price we'll all pay for that will be terrible beyond imagination.

After the Hebron massacre of 1929 in which about 70 Jews were killed by their Arab neighbors (this was before the state of Israel was founded), one of the survivors remarked that Arabs know how to conceal their enmity very well.
That may or may not be the case today with our neighbors and friends. Afterall, the Arabs lived years and years with the Jews until they decided to kill them in the 1929 Hebron massacre.
Quite correct. Of course, better that we Americans die than offend our "peace-loving cornerstone of civilization".
Why is it that every Muslim apologist makes a list like this and then "refutes" it tongue in cheek? Not a one of these statements is absurd per se. In my life, I have only heard of one shoe bomber. He was a Muslim. The 9/11 hijackers were terrorists and were Muslim. Those hijackers, and many other Muslims with whom I'm acquainted have little respect for American laws and institutions because of a perceived hypocrisy. Certainly the 9/11 hijackers didn't care too much about overtime parking or littering! These people -- who are destructive -- raised the money somewhere. Their globe-trotting would have a Michelin Guide writer envious. Many -- MOST -- cover their heads with cloths. And I don't know about "suspicious," but their names ARE odd-sounding to western ears. That they need to be watched seems axiomatic. That they are un-American seems patently obvious.
Do these descriptions apply to ALL Muslims? Of course not. Not all terrorists are Muslims, nor are all Muslims terrorists. But all the airplanes flown into buildings in the worst terrorist act ever committed against a peaceful enemy were flown -- hijacked -- by Muslim terrorists. It seems logical to suspect Muslims of terrorism over say, Scandinavians. Or does that logic escape this self-righteous prig?
And how many books of any kind have been written by Muslims?
And how many predominatly-Muslim nations are democratic?
