According to a recently completed poll, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., is in the fight of her life against former State Court Judge Denise Majette.

Yay!!

But if the seat is given to a well-spoken black liberal Democrat who doesn't display Ms. McKinney's divisive race-baiting and kooky ideas, does that really help conservatives?

It's actually good for our side to have a few Democrats in Congress who are clearly out in left field (even in foul territory) because they can be used to put other Democrats on the defensive.

"Mr. Gephardt, do you agree with some in your party who claim President Bush actually drew up the flight plans for the hijackers?", etc.

OTOH, if somebody else wins, maybe it shows that less blacks are influenced by her stupidity.

NO! Absolutely not!

Every time some marxist creep like Mckinney manages to get elected it pushes the Kongress as a whole to the left. The overwhelming majority of politicians of both parties believe that the role government is to punish the successful and reward the clueless. When garbage like McKinney gets into Kongress it sends a message to all politicians that they can push the Hegelian envelope further to the left. What would be good is if these hatemongers were all dumped on their worthless a$$es and sent home to work for a living.

Personally, even given the outragious nature of her pronouncements, I haven't seen other Democrats put on the defensive, anywhere, because of Cynthia. I think it's wishful thinking.

As thing stand now, she's building seniority on the International Relations and the Armed Services committee, and looking forward to chairing, though I expect her to be ranking minority member, of the Human Rights subcommittee (IR) which she plans on using to bring the international human rights focus to America and the historic mistreatment of her citizens.

Oh, I think the Dems still have plenty of sideshow-specimens we can point to. What about Barabara Lee or Maxine Watters? Or Barney Frank? Just to name a handful...

But, Barbara Lee and Barney Frank are not idiots. Leftists, certainly, but they understand the words that come out of their mouths and they're smart enough to know when to shut up and not reveal their ignorance. One could even conclude that Lee's controversial vote accurately reflected the will of her district, so was a calculated political vote, not the vote of a crazy woman.

McKinney, Watters, Jackson-Lee, Meek (sorry to pick on just the blck congresswomen, that's not my intent) all say things that are outright bizarre, not just something I disagree with. Nutjobs like these I think hurt their party as much as they help them. Jim Traficant's crime was being a white male who didn't stay on the plantation. If he was a black woman, he could have kept his seat because none of the white liberals (of either party) would have dared to challenge him/her.

In most cases, these women have gerrymandered districts that allow them to win elections just on the ignorance of their constituents no matter their incompetence. But, if the seat is going to a Democrat anyway, I'd rather see it go to an incompetent one rather than just an evil one.

I will concede the point about seniority, though. It's certainly a valid thought.

McKinney is actually a bright and sincere member of Congress.

Calling a skunk a rose still would not remove the odor...

Call me simple-minded, but I think power derived from the legislative branch of our government dissipates after the office-holder leaves. For the new office-holder, it takes time to learn to turn the levers of power.

I think we're better off if the lefties keep "churning and burning". If they can keep knocking themselves out of office before they can do anything we're better off.

My son has just moved into McKinneys district. One of the first things he did was to move his voter registration. He also says that he will vote Democrat in the primary just so he can vote against McKinney.

Denise Marjette will be on The Royal Treatment show tonight at 9 pm on AM 750. We all plan to listen.

Agreed! And that's one reason I concur with you that it's good to keep a couple certified (or certifiable!) whackos out in the public eye so that voters don't forget just how bizarre they are.

These nutjobs as you call them still vote on the laws that affect you, me, and all law abiding citizens of the US. When a vote comes for tax increases or gun control, they aren't too wacked out to vote against freedom every time. So just how is it that you think they hurt their party? Do you think that people who are Democrats vote Rebublican or Libertarian because McKinney is a Marxist or Jackson-Lee is a total ignoramus? Of course not. TO Democrats and those envious do-nothings for whom the tax and spend leviathan government has appeal perceive filth like Mckinney to be heroes.

People like Mckinney do not hurt the Democratic party at all. To the contrary, their success in getting elected shifts the government as a whole further to the left.

That's why I'd much rather relegate them to some obscure post in the ivory tower (like Dean of Non-Western Studies at some loopy college campus)

You're too kind. I have more in mind something in keeping with their abilities (like a janitorial position :-)

the wimpy moderates, to you & me!)

I don't think we're going to agree here. The people you are describing are unlikely to be registered to vote, and if they are registered, probably won't make the effort. From the looks of things, Marxists like McKinney and Ron Dellums have not hurt the Democrats in the past. The envious greedy do nothings who believe the the rest of us owe them a living get off their lazy backsides and vote democrat regardless of the personal attributes of the candidate. The entheusiastic misguided who somehow think that Republicans are going to roll back the leviathan go faithfully to the polls and vote. The libertarians march off optimistically and declare a victory if they get 5% of the vote, and the hard core environazis vote for their candidate and are pretty much successful in driving the federal government a little closer to the totalitarian police state the is every government official's wet dream. All the rest of the potential voters sit on their thumbs and do nothing. Look at how low the turn out is.

The best we can do is to oppose blatant Stalinists like Mckinney, and BTW there is nothing harmless or inept about her. She is a vicious, malicious power hungry nazi wannabe. Her attack on Bush about the 9/11 fore knowledge was not goofyness, but a deliberate attempt to throw enough mud to get some of it to stick.

, I'm not so sure this is a bad thing for us. Low turnout signals that only the folks who really give a hoot are voting.

I agree that low turn out is good for conservatives (Libertarians might get 10% :-). I was just using it to illustrate that the moderates don't really count because they mostly don't vote.

You're right about the deadbeats being bussed to the polls. You can rest assured that the church busses will be rolling to the McKinney strongholds come election day. (Voting early and often.)

my hero Newt Gingrich

You were doing ok up till here. :-( I could tell you Newt stories from when I worked with him that would appall you; however, just from the viewpoint of political ineptitude Newt is a disaster. Remember his proposed slight reduction in Social Security? Not enought to do the slightest good financially, but enough to get all of the blue hairs frothing at their gums. Then there was the sellout of the contract with America. Are you sure you want to keep Newt as a hero?
