"Launching his new live show on July 15, Phil achieved respectable numbers against the competition...But by week's end Donahue crashed and burned as half his viewers vanished."

People watched on the 18th only to see Ann Coulter.

If he'd do a complete 180 to turn into a Goldwater-esque conservative ... I know he'd get back on!

Well, I watched him a couple of times (hey, I was bored, okay?) and I can honestly say he is HORRIBLE without the studio audience.

With them, he's merely awful.

All of the social engineering and leftist issues of the 70's have given way to new plots and fringe nuts and Donahue is still fighting the 70's nonconformist battles. He is so impassioned that he seems unhinged. He sports a wild eyed look that is unnerving and embarrasing for the viewer. It appears, as he stutters, yells and waves his arms about that spittle is flying causing guests to duck.

One of the things that is hardest for anyone to do is to acknowledge when it is time to move on, or to try a different format for one's talents. Maybe just to retire. In a way I feel sorry for Phil. He thought he could do his liberal causes some good, but he is actually making himself and his causes look more rediculous than they already appear.

Phil was host of a talk show known for it's shock value. After 8 years of Clinton our shock absorbers are plain worn out. He can't get our attention using shock tactics any more, we are numb.

I confess, I did, too. He looked completely lost, didn't he? It was kind of sad. Not THAT sad, but pitiful.

"It's not that TV has passed him by, it's his politics and his attitude. He sux!"

Donahue is a washed up has been communist kisser. MSNBC must have been desperate to sign this loser up. The public lost interest in him years ago.

There's prolly a hard-coded exception for your name grandfathered into the forum code. Are you aware of any other FReeper names using the superscript tag?

Living with Marlo must have done it to him. I don't remember him looking or acting anywhere near this nutty when my mother used to watch him back in the '70's.

His sudden downfall has left the amiable 66-year-old talk show pioneer "devastated and humiliated," reveals an insider.

Awwwwww. Phil, my heart's just breaking in two for you. Might I suggest some light reading to take your mind off your failure?

When are the libs going to realize the public doesn't want their message any more?? I mean, what do we have to do to get the point across - liberalism doesn't sell in American any more.

'Course, prolly in the 70's his eyes were younger and he didn't need those pop bottle bottoms.

I remember well the day I myself needed the dreaded 'readers'.

Maybe he should end it all on his last show. I might actually tune in to see that.

Donahue? I never watched any of his shows old or new. He married the former (?) actress Marlo Thomas. If Donahue had a head for the news and currect events I'm know I would be watching his show.

Make it a pay-per-view. Heck, I'd forgo that fourth beer every night for a month for that.

Donahue's lovely actress-wife Marlo Thomas has been his most vocal supporter, according to the insider.

Lovely? Marlo Thomas is lovely? In what Alice-In-Wonderland reality is this true?

Next we'll hear Chelsea Clinton described as sultry and supple.

And every bit deserved.
Self-criticism is good. I just hope he draws the right conclusion: retire; go away; you are an irrelevant boor.

And lose the "owl" glasses, it just makes you look like the idiot that you are.

What you feel is irrelevant to 99.9999% of the American public.
Is all that clear enough?

On the other hand, burning up a few more "progressive" "socialist" Hilary millions pursuing your delusions is a very good thing.
Talk about mixed feelings.
