You know, I wonder if any of the farmers refinanced their homes just before they fled the country?

It's a cool idea actually. Just before the government tells your specific family that you have to vacate the farm, you take out a massive loan from the bank. Take the money and transfer it to a bank outside of the country, then burn the house and leave the country once the government tells you to get off the land. You could end up with finances to restart your life in another land.

Scorched Earth - these people should destroy every acre of useable land they have and leave the country so it can fall into ruins.

This is a sad mess. Thanks for all your updates.

Since the farmers had to leave all the livestock and equipment behind, the farms should have everything needed for Zimbwabe to feed itself indefinitely, but it won't happen. I don't expect the media to provide any better coverage of the coming famine, slaughter, and cannabalism than they have provided thus far.

I hope those farmers find a safe refuge.

I was thinking one could dig a deep hole in the middle of ones house, put about a hundred pounds of dynamite in it along with a couple tons of ammonium nitrate and a one month timer clock. Cover it all up and tile over it. Then leave.

I wish that these white farmers would all come to america. I really think our government should do something special to reach out to them and bring them here.

We should just give them plane tickets or whatever. It's not like we enforce immigration laws anyway. (although it may be different for the Arabs now)

Mugabe's objective is to create a famine which will starve his enemies -- much like Stalin's planned famine in the Ukraine. He doesn't need most of the population -- just enough to work the mines which will produce the foreign exchange to line his pockets. I would expect in two years most of the population will be dead -- and Mugabe even more firmly in power

"The most important part about being the leader of the free world is to utilize the bully pulpit. Calling attention to Mugabe's murderous tyranny should be expected and respected. Too bad GWB doesn't think it fitting to criticize. Its not as though the American people aren't capable of understanding right from wrong.... Geeze!"

Absolutely. Ethnic cleansing at its finest.

I just sent my letter:

I have been reading about what is going on in Zimbabwe, and want to put my opinion about the situation on record, so that when the inevitable starvation disaster occurs there, you will already know what concerned US citizens like me are thinking.

Since Mugabe sees fit to throw successful farmers off their land without compensation and then give the property to his chosen people regardless of their farming skills or their property rights, it appears likely to me that there will be massive starvation, which will be followed by fighting over what little food is available. When that happens and the UN demands that the United States send money, food and armed forces to oversee humanitarian aide distribution, we must not send one red cent over there. It is one thing to support true disasters, or to intervene where the United States has legitimate National Security interests. It is another entirely to rescue that country from problems of their own deliberate creation, at the expense of American lives. And make no mistake about it, even if we don't have to send troops, the taking of taxes is at the expense of American lives, and we count on you to ensure that the part of our lives spent earning those taxes is not wasted on the underserving.

Thank you for your time and attention to this "future" issue.
