No! Not Chelsea! I like her. She can't help who her parents are, and I think she is pretty and looks like a sweet person.

I know, I'm probably the only one on FR who is a Chelsea fan.

Louisiana has some beautiful rural areas, but it is way too hot and steamy for me! I've discovered I'm more of a cold climate person. That sweltering Gulf Coast heat is too much for me. Louisiana does have some good food and good people though. Some of the friendliest and most comical people I've met were from south Louisiana, many of them my relatives!

It sounds like Washington state and Oregon have changed a lot in the past 20 years! It's sad to hear as those are beautiful states, but politically it sounds like they are going the way of California. Why can't the liberals leave the pretty and peaceful states alone? It's as if they are intent on ruining them.

Speaking of bigoted hatred, Hollywood has put out SO many movies over the years portraying the South as filty, miserable and full of ignorant white people with missing teeth looking for a black person to lynch. And they always play this old twangy, hicky sounding background music in those South-bashing movies.

Too many people have formed their opinions of the south from such movies. One of the worst that comes to mind is "Mississippi Burning". I thought that movie was a slap in the face to every person who ever lived in Mississippi.

Have you ever been to Louisiana? It does have great food, and it does have a certain charm!

Thanks to the media who look down their noses on the South and have probably never even been there. I can't stand the phoney accents in those shows and movies about the evil southern white people who want to do nothing but terrorize black people. No matter if it's a 5 year old girl, a housewife, or an old man, in these movies all the characters say the N word several times in every sentance. It's almost like the guys making these movies feel like they have to bash us over our heads to make their point clear. Their point being of course that white southern people are stupid, mean, and generally a waste of space. I'm just sick of that propaganda.

Sometimes I cringe a bit over the French-bashing threads. I am half French, lived there as a child, and have a close family member still living there. I also visit periodically. So I have some feelings for that country which I like, and it does bug me sometimes to see people put them down so much. I have noticed too the posts where people say California should sink into the ocean. I have thought how that might not sit too well with me if I were from California. However, I do realize that people tend to generalize, just like I did when I said New Jersey is the worst state!

Some of us even have close relatives who are liberals! I must say, of the dedicated liberals I have known, by and large they seem to lack a sense of humor. Really. Also, many are a rather serious and grim bunch in my experience. Hillary comes to mind as a good example of that. There are some out there who really mean well though; they just don't have a very realistic grasp of human nature.

You are so right, people do have their preferences in what is important to them in order to have a good quality of life. For some, it's living in a big, noisy city with lots of amenities. For oddballs such as myself, living in a very rural area with clean air, no crime, and lots of natural beauty is the way to go.

You sound like you may be an elitist. You can't just judge people on their education level or how much money they have, or how many flashy new vehicles they own. What is in the heart and soul is what truly matters. But you're a pitt bull lawyer...well, maybe it's not too late! No one is hopeless! ; )
