A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 8-12-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FR'S FINEST

backhoe

Brunswick GA
FReeper Since 5-15-00

Is there a story behind the screen name, backhoe?
In his own words: "The day I registered I was welding brackets on my backhoe, and having a brain-lock moment ( falling back to BBS days ) I tried to think of a name no-one was using that I could remember easily! Wish I had thought of something more clever- sheik yerbooty comes to mind.... also YaYa123".

Many of those familiar with backhoe's postings on the Forum find his screen name nonindicative of what he does. A screen name such as "Mr. Links" or "Sir. Encyclopedia" would be more appropriate in the eyes of many FReepers. However, it can be argued that a backhoe is needed for all the dirt he digs up. After you see all he does, you might be inclined to agree.

"So, what is it that he does anyway?"
Backhoe believes that we are better off with more information. He would like every one of us to think for ourselves and to bypass the "rotten, celebrity worshipping media" and do our own research. So he combs the internet for stories and information, marks them, sorts them, files them and then he posts them on the Forum. We, the readers of the Forum, have access to all of his information via his links central. I was not familiar with backhoe's work until I began his profile and when I was researching him, I was totally overwhelmed by all the links to information he posts. But once I got the hang of it, I found it to be easy, fun and informative. Just click on the links...click, click, click.

This is the disclaimor backhoe often publishes before posting a links central piece:
Note well- the "crediblity factor" of these subjects varies greatly, and you are cautioned to use judgement, skepticism, and further research before reaching any conclusions. Most of these sites have links to other data-- use them, but remember they are only springboards to further information.

Backhoe is probably best known for the Series "Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast." (DUBOB) which he began on 4-15-01. The latest in this series is #9. The links contained in the DUBOB Series include the stories and "issues" that the mainstream media doesn't like to mention. The first posting of DUBOB was an internet implementation of a scrapbook of news clippings that backhoe had kept during "the eight-year unpleasantness" with the Clintons. He noticed so much news was either never talked about if it could be helped, or mentioned once, buried, and dismissed with "we already covered that! Old News!"

Here is a link to DUBOB #9. It in turn is linked to all of the DUBOBs. link to DUBOB #9

FReepopedia

If FR ever publishes a FReepopedia, backhoe's encyclopedic body of work would help fill it.

Click here for links to "articles" (mainly links to further links with some commentary ) backhoe has posted on Free Republic. They cover an eclectic range of subjects, and it is guaranteed that you will find an abundance of reading material if you follow the "links within links...."

I have selected three subjects for you to link to. There are many more...
Lonely Death of Vince Foster
The Rosenberg Case
TWA 800

Here's another example of backhoe's links central posts - this one about China's theft of our military technology and other secrets. See Post #7 in this thread: Military Secrets, post #7

And, lastly, here is a link to articles posted on FR, by popular categories. click here and see post #717. These categories include: Condit, Enron,.Clinton Scandals, Africa Watch.

Backhoe, thank you for all the time consuming and hard work you do to keep us well informed.

You are truly ONE OF FR'S FINEST

(I would be remiss if I did not thank Freedom's Worth It for her assistance in the preparation of this profile. Thank you FWI..DaisyScarlett)

Gee, I almost didn't recognize myself!
Your kind words are appreciated. I should be online, off & on, all day... the lovely Emily seems to have either the flu or another bad tooth, so I'll be fulfilling my role of househusband/nurse/driver and general cleaner-up of messes today... but I should be around.

Good morning... well, the darn dog ( Taffy, the Great Huntress ) has discovered a wonderful new game-- hunting the Invisible Rat.

Previously, she confined herself to hunting & catching only real rats, but yesterday she "found" varmints in the azelias that I could not see, or drive out by beating the bushes with a stick... so we got up at 4 this morning to go & hunt more Invisible Rats.

Rats!

Howdy, howdy... back when I did a lot of ad photography I naturally veered over to the artistic side, and always had a fascination for bodies of water- and weather phenomenon.

I have literally thousands of negatives and hundreds of prints- in my now-dismantled darkroom, where no-one can view them but me! One of these days, I'll find a cheap ( or free! ) host and get my brother-in-law at Glynn Camera to digitize them... until then, they rest quietly in old file cabinets.

I really enjoy this thread each day and found your links wonderful, backhoe! A deep mine of information. It will take me a while to look at it all. Thanks for your work and supplying this to all who 'search'.

Question please: How do I find a specific Freeper like you if I don't have a link to click? Do I bookmark or is there a way to search? Thanks...

Yahoo! Congratulations, Backhoe! A very deserved HONOR for you as truly one of Free Republic's Finest!!!!

I love the FREEPOPEDIA, Daisyscarlett! - because that is exactly what Backhoe has compiled!!!!!

And, I love the story about how you chose the name "backhoe" - but I think of it as so RIGHT for you since YOU DO ALL THE DIGGING of the DIRT - that is right out there for all to find if they would just look (BUT OF COURSE MOST DON'T LOOK - ESPECIALLY THE MEDIAIDIOTS) re the truth about the truly dark underbelly of the beast!

Anyway - LOVE THIS HONOR FOR YOU! IT IS SO WELL DESERVED!

And now I get to learn a bit about your part of this big beautiful country we are blessed to live in!

For instance - here's a picture of the old Glynn County Courthouse. You done any digging around it?

Good morning! I know what you are asking and do what you are asking about often.

When you go to "latest posts" in Free Republic - there is a "find in forum" search engine that should show at the top of the lists of "latest posts". There is a drop down box that lets you search "by poster" or "by title" or "by keyword".

Choose "by poster" and type in backhoe in the left search window and click "find" and you will get all the most recent posts by the poster. The only disappointing thing is that I can't get but one page of search results - unlike on a yahoo or google search engine.

You can also search on google.com by "backhoe" - but I don't know how to narrow it down there to get everything he has posted on Free Republic.

Help us out here - all you who are kings of the websearch thingie!

Oh - and you know you can click on Backhoe's name under any of his posts and it will take you to is home page where lots of links - bookmarks - and other stuff should reside.

Howdy... well, besides clicking on the name when you see it, there's a "find in forum" within the internal search engine here... like all this dam' Windows stuff ( I go back to the vacuum tube era... ) you "point & poke & see what happens"-- keep poking boxes and tabs and eventually you'll get a box "by poster." And if I remember correctly, in the mail section there is a way to locate other members as well.

Backhoe - pretty please - could you post one of your "box link" thingies about Clinton's culpability for 911?

And then post your mega link to your library about the Hildebeast?

Yes, I know, it will take some strong coffee to stomach the information you provide - but we can handle it! Good Coffee is one thing we get here on the FR Finest thread!

My goodness! The old courthouse is about 9 blocks down the street from us... they recently built a new one, which is mostly famous for roof leaks that can't be fixed.

I actually have been there to look a few old records up for personal use, but not to do any deep investigation. It is an interesting old building, one of the few around here ( high water table ) with a basement.

Ah - LOL - "The old courthouse is about 9 blocks down the street from us... they recently built a new one, which is mostly famous for roof leaks that can't be fixed."

I love that - leaky roof - can't be fixed - oh well, another government boondoggle.

See, I do know how to search a few things in Google (re the photo of the old courthouse).

Thank you for the links boxes! YES - they are the ones. And the ones about Clinton vs. Bush some facts re: 911. That info is probably there - so, if so, I will study it more.

Go take care of all you must take care of ----- and will see you around here later today! God bless you, and yours, by the way.

And if your cat could help us catch (and convict) of all the REAL RATS ruining our country - well, wouldn't that be nice?

The historic site of the St. Simons Lighthouse dates back to Fort St. Simons, a colonial fort, which was built under General James Oglethorpe's command to protect the southern tip of the island. Fort St. Simons was destroyed by retreating Spanish soldiers in the Battle of Bloody Marsh in 1742. In the early 1800s, John Couper acquired the land and named it Couper's Point. Couper sold the land for $1 to the government in 1804 to build the St. Simons Lighthouse. During America's Civil War, Confederate troops constructed Fort Brown on the lighthouse property. The fort was abandoned and the lighthouse blown up by the Confederate forces in 1862 to prevent its use by Federal troops. A second lighthouse was constructed in 1872, the light you see today.

Wow! We used to sell that photopack at our retail stores...

See the brick tower in the "W?" That's the old Ogelthorpe Hotel, which was torn down during Urban Renewal under the promise of "we'll get rid of all those nasty outdated brick buildings you have downtown and replace them with nice modern ones..."

It was replace with a Cabana Inn... nice, but no equal of the Ogelthorpe. Our furniture store, "Brunswick's Oldest & Largest" was torn down, and replaced with a vacant lot... they ran out of money!
