"know a fellow who was recently thrown in jail for 8 years by state of Indiana, he owes 45 grand in child support for 2 kids."
.
.
.
"She has been told by state of indiana that she is headed for jail if she can't pay up."

Men get put in jail. Women get told they're headed for jail.

Tell your friend to catch the clue and stop sweating.

I think there are 2 seperate points being made here. One is that parents should support their kids and the other (your point) is that the Fed Gov should not be enforcing laws to make parents support their kids. I don't think those are necessarily opposing views.

I want child support enforced...fairly and properly. I think you make a good point that it shouldn't be enforced on the federal level. The problem is a lack of a system for states to work together to enforce the law. There needs to be a uniform system from state to state.

"Her money is her money and the child support is her money, too."

Well, the good news is that you recognize that "child support" = alimony (albeit with a "reverse the charges" ticket at the IRS)

The bad news is that you endorse this travesty.

It can't be enforced "fairly" so long as it continues to be assessed at a confiscatory rate far in excess of the actual costs of raising the child.

As long as you endorse this travesty, you are fighting the wrong side of this battle.

You can't have "fair" enforcment of unfair laws.

So you don't consider the child support she paid and owed you as your money? If it wasn't considered your money then why did you have to legally forgive the debt?

"So you don't consider the child support she paid and owed you as your money? If it wasn't considered your money then why did you have to legally forgive the debt?"

How could it be "my" money if it was never going to end up in "my" pocket?

I forgave it so that I wouldn't grow an ulcer brooding over "the money she owes me and refuses to pay, that the courts -- which keelhauled me when the situation was reversed -- will refuse to make her pay me."

I've already explained this, so don't be obtuse.

You sure like putting words in my mouth.

I never said the laws were fair. As a matter of fact I said the opposite when I said that family law had been unfair to men for too long.

Hmmmm....Uh-huh.

In that case, I apologize for accusing you of supporting the unfair laws that you demand be enforced with a vengeance.

Yes, I just damned you with faint praise.

Good God you embody "obtuse".

Heaven forbid I take steps to ensure that I will be able to "get over" a major bad debt that I will never be able to collect.

You have an axe to grind. I'd like to know why.

And to spare you the effort of accusing me of having an axe to grind, I confess! I confess! Yeah, I've got an axe to grind, and I've made no secret of it.

Your move.

I don't know Don Joe; the rules change and they're different in different states. I think in some states they might be mistreating women as badly as they mistreat men. Two wrongs make a right, don't they

I agree with you in that I don't like those who can't understand that these family court rulings are very bad.

The government throws all sorts of costs onto us so cavalierly, then they impose these burdens of child support that, when you look at the details, are so unjust. government has become a monster.

I am so amazed at you ability to know so much about me from just a few posts. You are good. You nailed me. I must have an ax to grind since you say so. Now let me find that ax. Let's see now...no children, no step-children...hmmm...I'm having a hard time finding that ax, but it must be here cause you said so. I'll keep looking.

I've so enjoyed being your grinding stone this evening, but now I'm worn down. You'll have to continue your pitty party without me.

My "pity party"? Good grief, did I say "obtuse"? Well let me repeat it, after a fashion. You are quite clearly thick as a brick if you think I'm wallowing in self-pity.

You are unbelievable! I mean "Stop the Presses" unbelievable. I mean "Off the Charts" unbelievable. I mean "this time it really is something to write home about" unbelievable.

Please, scrounge around for a clue. They're out there, trust me.

>>And as I've said in other threads, my contempt for this foul system would be mitigated if I had any sense that my situation was unique<<

Which of course it isn't bro'.

I always tell Dads, "you can have your kids as much as you want-as long as you pay your ex-wife as if you didn't have them at all".

And as far as the "pay to play" crowd goes-there's no way you can turn a $50 service into a multi-hundred thousand dollar (in some cases million dollar) luxury freebie system in any other field of endeavor.

If you really want to be paid for gettting laid, ladies, get real about the price.

Damn, ya know.............During this time of "war on terror", it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO comforting to know that the FEDERAL government needs to arrest so-called "deadbeat dads" (I hate that phrase) to protect us all.

The inmates are running the asylum, folks.

That may be the solution...if everyone just played with themselves, there wouldn't be children unfortunately born into these horrible situations, would there?

I think BOTH parties played, but don't go calling the woman a whore and whining about having to write a check each month when she is left with the child to raise. Read the original post to which I responded before you attack me.

I personally hold both parties in the highest contempt in that situation.
