NEVER FORGET

.."WE WERE SOLDIERS"..

...the new RANDALL WALLACE ..'Braveheart in 'Nam.. Motion Picture starring MEL GIBSON, SAM ELLIOTT, MADELEINE STOWE, GREG KINNEAR, CHRIS KLEIN, KERI RUSSELL, BARRY PEPPER about the 1st Major Battle of the Vietnam War in the -Valley of Death- that was the IA DRANG of November 1965...

...is out today on ..DVD/Video in Super-Surround Sound that highlights the unforgettably lush Soundtrack Musical Score of NICK GLENNIE-SMITH.

...A major new plus here is the new addition of -10- previously deleted scenes on both the DVD and Video with Commentary by "WE WERE SOLDIERS" Director/Screenwriter RANDALL WALLACE, who won an Academy Award for his 1st .."BRAVEHEART".. Motion Picture Screenplay starring ..MEL GIBSON..!

...In .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. MEL GIBSON is then Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE who led his 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry (Of CUSTER fame) Skytroopers to victory, while surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese Communist Regulars, in the 7th Cav's 2nd Battle of the Little Big Horn to open the Vietnam War.

...This outstanding Motion Picture is based on the Classic Non-Fiction Bestselling Book ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE and YOUNG'.. Co-Authored by now Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE (Ret.) and War Correspondant JOE GALLOWAY who was there.

...It was my distinct honor to carry Radio and drive for Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE (MEL GIBSON) and his S/MAJ BASIL L. PLUMLEY (SAM ELLIOTT) right up to this Battle, where I witnessed all from the close-in Artillery Support Landing Zone Falcon that fired up a constant Wall of Fire around the surrounded Landing Zone of IA DRANG-1965 = THE Difference.

...After my carrying our Hero Dead and Wounded Young Soldiers fresh from Landing Zone X-Ray to helicopters going back to the rear at Pleiku Airstrip ...Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE wrote out his -Letters of Condolances- to their Hero Families waiting for them their Loved Ones to come home or not. As the IA DRANG-1965 S-1 Personnel Clerk ..I typed them up for mailing home ..some directly to Mrs. JULIE MOORE's for her hand delivery to wives.

...All this I will NEVER FORGET.

This movie was good.It didn't run down the image of those of us who served in that war.It showed something about leaders who are loyal to their men and men loyal to each other.None of the Hollywood leftist relativism. The book was better because it was history. This is a dramatization. It's the attitude of the film that hits home in a positive way.It allows us to see that sometimes you're just faced with absolutes-no time to theorize and discuss things. The impact on the families was skillfully interwoven."Blackhawk Down" was also worthwhile, but it related an isolated incident in the midst of a mission with no clearly defined purpose.Vietnam just went on and on-it was the defining aspect of my generation along with the Cold War.

I read the book and just finished the movie. I also appreciated having the deleted scenes because I really missed having the unit march in formation at the end. It is in the deleted scenes. I thought the movie was quite well done and was very respectful of our men.

I will always be grateful for our brave soldiers who fought in Nam. I will never forgive the politicians and the idiot Generals who used the war for personal gain.

Thanks to all you Viet Nam vets who are Freepers.

...RANDALL WALLACE's purpose was to make a Motion Picture of HEALING, for both our Veterans and our still confused Country.

...I am hearing from Veterans Administration Personnel that it's been their experience with handling Veterans of all our Modern Day Wars that...

.."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. has been just such a HEALING. What a Gift...?

...RANDALL WALLACE should know...

...as his father died the morning of September 11, 2001.

...I too should know, for my own Father died just two days before.

...Mrs. SUSAN RESCORLA knows too well...

...as it was her husband RICK...

...Hero of the Battle of IA DRANG-1965, WTC Bombing-1993 and the WTC-Airstrikes-2001...

...who gave all that he had that 2nd Day of Infamy while saving the lives of 1,000's of others before Tower 2 came down on him as he was making his final sweep up there for any stragglers. Just like he did at Landing Zone X-Ray long, long ago.

ANY movie with Mel Gibson in it is a box office draw. The two finest movies he ever made were Gallipoli in his native Australia and the stirring rendition of the life of William Wallace in Braveheart in resisting the cruel oppression of English King Edward Longshanks upon the Scots.

I just saw We Were Soldiers on DVD. Its a great war movie. You have to admire both the general and the men he led in Ia Drang Valley in the Central Highlands in the face of an enemy with superior numbers and arms and being totally surrounded. Its a good look at soldiers as husbands and fathers not just warriors. What I liked about is that it finally gives our Vietnam Vets the gratitude and appreciation they should have gotten back then. Whatever one's personal feelings about the war, our soldiers got a raw deal on coming back home. Its time to remember them as the heroes they were and how much they sacrificed for their country. Looking at 7th Calvary Company's exploits on the field of battle brings tears to one's eyes and makes one proud to be an American. God Bless America.
