This story is baloney.Everyone knows that we do not have our allies on board. The Republicans are fighting each other. The media, who are the self appointed guardians of the American Bill of Rights are showing dying dogs and reporting on such serious issues such as Opie and Andy.

Why it would be just not cricket, to start a conflageration without inviting them.....ROFL.

As Turkish troops reinforced security around the airport which lies just outside of the Kurdish district, American Special Forces and a crack unit of Turkish commandos seized two other strategic military points on either side of the airbase in the Dahuk province of Iraq.

Isn't that more of a Ranger mission than a Special Forces mission?

Yes it is, but the media, being the ignorant clowns they are, probably lump them all togather.

I remember not to long ago they claimed Ft. Campbell was the "Home of the Green Berets" and that this is where they received their training. Puredee B.S., but sadly, they just don't know any better.

Rangers Lead The Way!

The press is easily confused over esoteric unit roles.

It's only a matter of time before the guy that hands out golf clubs in Special Services is confused with the guys in Special Operations, which are already confused with the guys in Special Forces.

Pathfinders. First in, last out.

over two days old and unconfirmed

It's two weeks old on FR, but maybe hasn't been noticed by the mainstream media as yet.

According to information relayed to America by Israeli intelligence via satellite photography, accurate to within three metres, Saddam’s army is positioned in three strategic positions to repel ground force invasions....

The ol' BS meter pegged on this one. Since when do we base our military intel on 3-meter Israeli satellite recon photos? (Hint: never.)

I don't believe it. This "story" is over two days old and unconfirmed.

Exactly. I'm glad I have my boots on, because the B.S. is getting pretty deep here.

The place isn't terribly far into Iraq...

...in fact, the Allies could almost get away with claiming that they were lost and not "invading"! The "airbase", which seems to be more properly called Sirsenk rather than Bamarni, isn't much of a strip. 7700' of packed or oiled sand according to one description. (Though it was repaired by Sea-Bees during Operation Provide Comfort.) Saddam has, or had, a summer palace on a ridge overlooking the area.

The story was here earlier, reported by numerous Turkish news sources on the web. The above story repaets the older stories but gives much greater detail about the actual disposition of Allied forces.

The URL is HERE:

The post today is the first I've seen since.

Note to Bert.....

If they can fool FReepers into disbelief they have done an outstanding piece of work. Just imagine what Saddam has to wonder about.

The military invasion involved 5,000 Turkish Commandos backed by American Special Forces. Eye-witnesses on the ground claimed air support and/or protection in the northern no-fly zone was provided by Turkish, American and British aircraft.

I alwasy knew I liked Turks for a good reason.

I put up with months of SeaBees being referred to as Marines, so don't feel too bad :)
