Freep Fox News (vanity)
me

Posted on 08/23/2002 9:19:47 AM PDT by Britton J Wingfield

Fox News has announced that they'll show the sequence of the planes hitting the WTC once, then never again.

We should be showing everything that happened, all the shocking footage, especially the parts that were never shown in the first place.

Peacenicks should have to deal with the images of innocent people jumping to their deaths, and even the aftermath at ground level. This sort of whitwash is an outrage.

I say show it like it was that day. Too much editing of everything on TV. When watching news events, such as reruns of 9/11 they are even editing curse words in the crowd. Are we editing all our programs for 2 year olds? We know who did this to us on 9/11. Quit the bull.

Agreed. I think they shoud just pop in the tape from last 9/11 and let it run all day. Let's see it as it was.

People who object to repeated showings of the Attacks (which apparently are not going to happen, anyway) should turn OFF their TV's and allow the rest of us to view the pictures.

It's a stinkin' crime on part of the TV execs to have withheld and censored the videos especially so quickly after the attacks last year.

It's only 3000 fatalities. We wouldn't want to upset the kiddies, would we.

Advance Info is good; i think i've decided not to watch any of the networks. Perhaps the Spanish or other channels will be more honest in what they show us.

I applaud Fox News for its restraint.

Restraint in the fight against terrorism is politically correct, too.

There is a fine line between remembering this horrific event and getting hit on the head with it, ad infinitum,to the point that it no longer serves as the reminder of what and why we, as a country, must pursue those responsible, individuals or countries, and get rid of all of them.

Tell that to the History channel, et al re: Holocaust.

I agree with Fox.

Why if I hadn't been repeatedly exposed to those films of the Japanese navy planes swooping in on Pearl Harbor on that quiet Sunday morning, I just know I wouldn't carry with me to this very day an alarming animosity to all things Japanese and the firm belief that if it suited their purposes they'd do it again tomorrow.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life hating the devious swine that murdered 3,000 of my fellow citizens and wanting to exterminate them where ever and whenever they are found.

Oh no, I don't want that!

/sarcasm

Its not Fox News' job to fight the war on terrorism, that is for our Government. Fox News' job is report on the war so we can see if our Government is doing its job.

Fox News has announced that they'll show the sequence of the planes hitting the WTC once, then never again.

Unlike the other television media, FNC has shown the planes hitting the WTC many times in the past 11 month

They used to be much better. They used to show EVERY single thing listed in the archives. You could watch ALL of the links there, for instance, the entire weeks coverage of CNN starting Sept 11. Now I see they have closed down a lot of links. Pity. It was an EXCELLENT source of seeing it, "the way it was."

Years ago, I had a tape I popped into the VCR everytime interesting news was on. I had Chernobyl, Tianamin Square, the Berlin Wall, the election of Bush 1, etc. I have become convinced the reason news is never rebroadcast because when you see the original weeks later it is amazing how inaccurate they are. They are NEVER on target, and some of the things said are unbelievable.

When I first saw the 9-11 archive, I watched almost all of it over a matter of weeks. The point that struck me the most was very few anchors thought it was intentional. They kept thinking it was an accident. They kept asking stupid questions such as is there something wrong with the air traffic control, even after the 2nd crash. Very few jumped to the conclusion of a terrorist attack. And yes, Peter Jennings made a comment about is this a response for all the things America has done in the world.

By the way, America attacks is on CNNFN tommorrow at 2. I hope it is as good as the first one.

As someone that lives 1/2 mile north of what was the World Trade Center in NYC, I think Fox News is being very responsible. We all know what happened on 9/11/01 there is no need to see those planes slam into what was the World Trade Center over and over and over like we did during the first month after the atrocity.

The problem here is that, while everyone knows on some sort of indistinct, intellectual, level what happened, if we refuse to look at the footage we deny ourselves the truth of what happened.

In many criminal cases, including murders and rapes, there are pictures of what the victim went through. A good prosecutor knows to show those pictures to the jury, even though it would be tough on the victim or victim's family.

Why?

Because even though the jury has heard what happened, it doesn't hit home how heinous the crime was until they SEE what happened.

The "jury," in this case the American people, may have "heard" what happened, but they are starting to forget. They need to see it again. Otherwise, and we are seeing it happen already, they start to forget the true horror and return to complacency (for example, look at the way people want to call this a tragedy. It was not a tragedy. That implies some sort of accident. THIS WAS MASS MURDER).

The footage must be shown. Not for the victims. Not for the neighbors. But for the nation. We cannot allow the media to shield us from the true horror and, in doing so, shield us from the resolve we need.

While I'm always one to encourage making your voices heard when it comes to media, etc., etc....... I only ask that everyone keep in mind, if you contact FNC, that that network is the ONE breath of fresh air on the airwaves these days (when it comes to TV / cable, that is). They've done a superb job, they have fantastic news shows that truly DO show both sides of the story, and I'm damned glad they're around. Just asking that we NOT attack them; just offer up an opinion, please.

What should be replayed is the 2 hour documentary filmed by the two French brothers shown on CBS. That was magnificent.

About Fox, they have had many features on 9/11 and had one just this past weekend. I think that they have done a good job over the past year with reporting about 9/11 and will this year in remeberance. No need to freep them.

OK, feel free to call me stupid, but despite creating account on site and accessing program detail pages, I see nowhere to click to start viewing. What in the world am I missing?

I am really ticked off, I sent them an email. When they first started the site, EVERY program in the guide could be viewed all the way through. Up until a couple of weeks ago you could see quite a few of them, although some had been closed. Today when I checked it, only the front page links (a minimal amount of viewing) work. It is a shame, I got SO MUCH info from these pages when they began, now they give you edited stuff. Check out my post 31. How disappointing.

Check out "America Remembers" by CNNFN running the second part this weekend. Part 1 was excellent! And believe it or not, not anti Bush. I normally don't recommend CNN, but this was a GOOD documentary. I felt the French one was too sanitized.

I agree. I was toatlly immersed in the event as it happened. And, I don't care to relive the experience.

Honor, not horror.

Thank you for the explanation, although I am torn between irritation that I can't access the links and relief that I'm not an idiot. :)
