Dangerous Object Discovered, Triggers Evacuation

QUEENS, N.Y. -- Hundreds of passengers at a La Guardia Airport terminal were re-screened Friday after a security employee spotted a suspicious object passing through an X-ray machine.

"A screener reported sighting a dangerous item on the X-ray machine," said Allan Hoehl, the director of federal security at La Guardia.

In a statement issued in Washington by the federal Transportation Security Administration, Hoehl said security officials cleared the airport's Concourse C around noon on Friday and were investigating the incident.

Hoehl declined to describe the object, but NewsChannel 4 has learned that the screener reported seeing a knife in the bag.

The woman carrying that bag was apparently allowed to leave the immediate security check-area. When officials attempted and failed to locate her later, they ordered the entire concourse evacuated and all baggage re-checked.

Hoehl said passengers in Concourse C who had already gone through the security device were being re-screened.

Two planes and its passengers were also recalled for re-checking.

Airlines using that section of La Guardia include American Airlines, Spirit and AirTran Airways.

Man, I get so sick of these evolution threads.

Meaning?

Has the information in this story evolved from that which was given in an earlier post? I searched and didn't find anything posted on this. I thought a security breach at LaGuardia airport involving a knife and the fact that the owner of the bag disappeared into the crowd to be somewhat newsworthy, if only for the record.

"A screener reported sighting a dangerous item on the X-ray machine,"

Turns out it was a copy of "Slander"...

I think he means the slope-browed, slow-witted missing-links running the X-ray machines.

I had the misfortune to have been thru the same-said Concourse C 'security' about 10 days ago. These were the newly federalized and uniformed screeners.

What a joke! I actually saw a couple of them salute one another as they passed.

They all seemed to be trying to act as if they were some sort of para-professional law enforcement outfit. But you could see in their eyes that they didn't really believe it.
