Just checked back to catch your last response to me and noticed this in #280:

ah - far more appropriate in describing you suckers who started smoking and keep smoking because the billions spent on advertising by Big Tobacco:

I don't know who wrote that (and I couldn't care less) but I agree that person is hopelessly lost. Probably a product of the re-education camps, too well programmed to notice that cigarette advertising hasn't existed for many years in the US.

The info came from Repace.

You know, the so-called expert on SHS that used to work for the EPA and would go to work with a gas mask, and of the seceral hundred mile an hour winds needed to clear a room of SHS???

You know --------THAT repace!!!! LOL!

And how right you are. Unless you look at certain magazines that still carry cigarette ads. Cigarette ads are no longer on TV, and they are chopping down the billboards. Some magazines are still taking money from big tobacco to advertise cigarettes. But they aren't real predominate anymore.

What upsets me is: the anti's scream about magazines showing smoking ads. Well, it takes TWO! Big Tobacco sells the ads. It's up to the magazine Editor to take their money. If it wasn't for the Editor taking Big T's money, there wouldn't be any ads. Yet, the anti's are screaming about Big T advertising to the kids. Well, the Editors has the final say, don't they? No one is twisting the Editor to take the money and print the ads.

My Bad Max - I should have stuck with my normal position of finishing reading the thread where I left off before jumping in!!!

But on the other hand, I always find it so funny when repace is quoted that I couldn't help myself!!!!!

but in some of the studies there was actually a NEGATIVE result, indicating that non-smoking spouses of smokers are LESS likely to get a serious disease.

Hormesis as a Biological Hypothesis:A low dose of something (best documented for radiation), that is harmful at high doses, can be beneficial.

And thanks to the settlement, much of their $$$ now comes from cig sales.

Thanks to the extortion, er I mean settlement, yes the money that demonizes smokers is being paid for 100% by smokers, as is much of the money being spent to kick smokers out of the PRIVATE premises of business owners who wish to cater to smokers.

But is any of it being used for it's intended purpose of helping smokers? Not where I live.

Regardless of what channel, there is at least one if not more ads an hour from the state designed to humiliate smokers into quitting and it provides a HELPLINE phone number to call.

At the other end of the helpline they tell you how proud they are you want to quit and then direct you to for-profit quitsmoking programs.

Don't preach about tobacco company advertising - they are legal businesses who are continually strips of their abilities to advertise by the demonizers who ar using the smokers money to demonize the tobacco companies through means unavailable to the companies.

I despise the tobacco companies as much as the next guy, but I more despise meddling nanny statists who have decided they know what is best for private citizens and private businesses.

That's a good report. And I, too, believe that the more we are subjected to just helps build up our immune systems.

For instance: babies and small children who are kept in a "bubble" and protected from the outside world, will grow up to be sickly and weak. Aside from our immunizations we get as a child, the rest is just building up resistance.

If a person is "protected" from something, then when he comes up against it, it could kill him.

Just like being gay - it's behavior that you guys are engaging in that is bad, and you want society to condone.

WHEWWWWWW - I missed that snide remark. (thanks SL)

Mr. pittsburgh - it's attitudes like yours that have, as She Lion has so aptly put - awoken the sleeping dogs!!!

Typical anti-smoker mixing apples and oranges.

I'm so sorry to hear you dislike the "behavior" of smokers. That attitude puts you right in the camp of one of the premiere anti-smoker world activists, Joe Cherner. he doesn't care that we smoke, just doesn't want us to do it around him or his family.

He believes smokers are poor role models for children and make unfit parents.

Let me tell you a bit about his family. He's been all over the networks promoting his family. He and his "life partner" are very prominent in the movement for gay adoptions, and have already adopted two little girls.

Talk about a "wolf" in "sheep's clothing."

I really became irate when this ingrate brought up moral issues to which we have no part of! Being GAY? What the hell does THAT have to do with the smoking issue?

And your right! Probably the guy that Mr. Pittsburgh admires and looks up to…..et all Cherner………”is” gay.

I HATE bringing in issues like this, but HE brought it up! So there!

To say the least. But I think someone turned him in for abuse. So, we might not be graced with his presence any longer. :)

Well, geeze, reject away. Won't hurt MY feelings. Won't make the facts less onerus to you either. Fact is there is no proven link between so-called secondhand smoke and ANYTHING except maybe bad breath or minor nasal irritation... and terminal halitosis is really hard to catch!

Deal with it and leave smokers alone. In fact, as this is a post by and for smokers and smoking bothers you, don't let the door hit you in the a$$ as you leave the smoking section...

It's fine if you don't want to be "exposed to" environmental tobacco smoke and there's no reason in this day and age you ever should be. Just stay out of smoker-friendly places and you need never smell tobacco smoke.

You just don't get it dude.
The neurotic can smell one part per billion.
And if they can smell it it is adversely affecting them.

The have No clue as to the cause/effect relationship, or the difference between perception and reality.

Why are you wasting your time?

What upsets me is: the anti's scream about magazines showing smoking ads.

What gets me more is the antis screaming about the TC advertising PERIOD. Especially when they harp on the money spent.

You mentioned billboards - after the settlement was signed all the cigarette billboards had to come down, but the TC's weren't permitted to cancell their lease contracts. They had to continue paying through the end of the contracts, but the antis were given the billboard space at the expense of the TC. Billboard advertising space is not cheap.

I realize this was part of the settlement agreement - but also part of the agreement was the anti groups funded through the settlement, specifically American Legacy Foundation, could not demonize the TC's in their advertising. Do you remember the Truthie adds with the body bags outside philip Morris HQ, or the one about Lorilard and dog urine? But they didn't consider those demonizing TC's.

The double standards of the antis never ceases to amaze me.

How about you sit in a closed garage with your car running for one hour. I will sit in a room full of smokers for one hour. Wanna bet who comes out alive?

Oh! But you can't SMELL carbon monoxide, DUDE!

Nope. Not your business at all. For ANY reason, let alone health care costs. Gooberment statistics (and I don't have the link; do your own homework, you made the accusation.) show that smokers overall use FEWER healthcare resources than non-smokers. So, again, don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out of the smoking area.
