Republican nominee Jim Talent enters the final, 10-week stretch of the U.S. Senate campaign in a stronger position than the incumbent, Sen. Jean Carnahan, D-Mo., a new poll of Missouri voters shows.
Of 801 likely voters polled statewide, 47.1 percent supported Talent, compared to 46 percent for Carnahan. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points, which makes the matchup "too close to call," said pollster John Zogby.

Do not forget that Missouri is the "if you elect republicans more black churches will burn" state, and with the US Senate up for grabs the NAACP and other fringe democrat groups will pull out all the stops to keep the incompetent widow Carnahan in office.

For Carnahan backers, the top issues were the economy, health care and prescription drugs. Those also were the top issues among the women polled. Why am I not surprised? Gimme, gimme, gimme.
I want someone else to pay for my health care and my prescription drugs.

Ya know what? This all just goes to prove how incredibly
stupid voters can be.
What exactly are the Widow Carnahan's qualifications for the godd**ned United States Senate????
"Well, gee golly, I......um........washed my husband's drawers for decades, so I SURELY know how to help govern the most powerful nation on earth, donchaknow."
Bloody twits.
To: rface
The one question the poll did not mention is how important the 2nd Amendment is to voters. For this voter, support will go 100% to Talent because his record on firearms rights is very positive. And because Gebhardt supports Carnahan, and Gebhardt is given a "F" grade by the National rifle Assn, we don't need birds of a feather flocking in St Louis.

A caller to Rush yesterday from Georgia said with GREAT confidence that Chambliss would beat Cleland.
I have said for a MONTH that to get ANYTHING done in the Senate, we need to win a NET of four seats. If we only have a one-vote majority . . . again . . . either Chaffee or McCain will bolt and we'll be back to square one. BUT, if we win by 3-4, the margin actually becomes 5-7 because Breaux and Miller will suddenly vote with the majority (and in line with most of their ideology, anyway).
As of now: Toricelli trails; Wellstone trails; Carnahan trails; and Johnson trails. Hutchison leads; Dole leads. The key races will be in New Hampshire and Georgia. If we break even on those two, it will make the "working" 4-6 vote majority we need.

The poll shows that Carnahan's support from women is solid - almost 64 percent viewed her favorably, slightly above her approval rating among women in the earlier poll. Among those supporters is Ruthann Hartzell of Imperial. Her reasons touched on the continued emotional power of the personal loss that landed Carnahan in the Senate.
"Senator Carnahan's husband and her son were killed in a plane accident, and my brother and dad were killed in a plane accident a few years before that," Hartzell said. "I feel like I have kind of a connection with her."
Why did we ever let women vote? (For the record, I'm female, but I'd gladly give up my vote to keep morons like Ruthann from voting.)

I used to live in that dismal state and that backwater city of St. Louis. The perpetual voter fraud and outright criminal behaviour was sickening!
I actually had Talent to my home for a fund rasier when he was in Congress. He is truly a decent man with the morals and ideals that are not only good for America - but essential if we are to stop this headlong rush into mediocrity!
This cartoon typifies voting in Missouri - a state that I will never miss!

"We have a $2.1 million cash-on-hand advantage over him We know how Talent got his money, up front Bush fundraisers. How did Carnahan get hers ? Apparently over 2.1 million and more than likely in the neighborhood of 5 million over a very short period of time (about 19 months or about 300 k per month).

Hutchinson does have a small lead, but within the margin of error. I wouldn't consider Wellstone behind, from what I've seen. More like a dead heat, but definitely a vulnerable position. And Carnahan isn't behind. Just a day or two ago I reviewed all the polls, and she had a small edge. Given this poll, however, it's fair to say the MO race is also a dead heat.
TX is a race that the GOP needs to get busy with, and put some distance between Cornyn and Kirk.

Why do we, in this country when some male politician dies, put his wife in office?? Nine times out of ten, except in the case of Mary Bono, Rep. Ca., the wife doesn't know squat about her husband's job or how to run it, yet they get in. Whoever said you had to know anything to be elected to congress!!?

Ah, the largely female symphathy vote. That is the reason Carolyn McCarthy occupies my (once Republican) childhood congressional district. Women (and girly-men) vote for her in droves because her husband was killed by "a gun toting black man." Needlees, to say, they also eat up her gun-grabbing posturing as well.

Carnahan beat Talent in one key area: She continues to enjoy stronger support from women. I long for the days when silly women give up their sexist voting patterns and start voting for someone on more substantive grounds than the observation one candidate has a larger pair of b**bs!
The Widder Carnahan is a perfect example of this voting public malformity. So is Hitlery Clinton. And Barbara Boxcutter. And Diane Feinswine. And Babs "Tons-Of-Fun" Mikulski. And Patty "The Lightweight" Murray. And... the List goes on, and on, and on...
The other thing these b**bed bedwetters have going for them is they are Liberals, which is what really makes most of them attractive as most of them fail miserably on the "looks" side. Liberalism is the only thing that saves them from certain obscurity as the local harpy from whom normal men, intelligent women and most children usually flee. Liberalism also makes them very attractive to the girly-men (kudos to Ann Coulter for the word!) who periodically come out of the closet to vote for them in droves. They not only vote for them because of their sex, which is what these pitiful men secretly identify with, but also because of their (lack of) minds - which they also identify with - and their emotional, prevaricating words, which are miles long and millimeters deep.
In a saner, more enlightened and honorable Republic, the Widder Carnahan would have been history long ago - like November, 2000. The fact she isn't tells us more about the quality of our political process and the sensibility of a large, nearly majority segment of our gawd-awful fellow citizenry (some living, some dead but all mostly brain-dead) who somehow manage to find their way to the voting booths every few years - or at least get their votes cast there by means fair or foul!
A pox on these sexmongers, I say,... and on all those who fawn on them for their least desireable attributes!

Libertarian Tamara Millay 2.2% Can you image the rath that will (and should) come down on this lady if her stupid 2 percent candidacy cost the Republican Party control of the Senate and gives Daschele the power to shape of the Supreme Court.
