School districts have become so large that to run for School Board member requires a seriously funded campaign organization. The budgets of large school districts are often larger than the budgets of the local cities. Thus these seats require the support of the NEA who provide the campaign organization. The average mom and pop have little hope.

"I would like to correct you. In DV there are many, many, many EXCELLENT teachers. If you are so impressed with the education of our Founding Fathers, without the public school system, I can only assume you are giving your children the "best" also--without the public school system. This is my response to the above post I wrote: "I know that there are some good teachers but this notion that the NEA is like a "savior" is nauseating.
About the money issue. I have no say whatsoever as to how the schools spend "my" money and neither do you. If it wasn't for taxpayers, then there would be no schools, no teachers, etc. I do find it fascinating that many of our Founding Fathers received an excellent education outside of a classroom setting. Their situation was unique and we should all learn from it. Latin, literature, proper writing skills, etc. Necessity, as you call it, just does not cut it. It's like making a deal with the devil. Read the post up above by someone who posted about the company one keeps."

It's an amazing story.
Sorry if you disagree but since many of our Founders had no public schooling to speak of, the thought of what jobs they held, and the type of education they received speaks volumes. Compare that to the education of our kids today and how many are failing miserably.
Are today's schoolkids learning Latin, literature, proper history? Heck, some school districts have eliminated spelling altogether!

I try to complement the teachers where possible and then show them how their personal views conflict with the socialists. This then raises the questions about why they tolerate such nonsense.
For instance, the one teacher talked about all the abuse they take from the media. You can point out that they took abuse over the 9/11 stuff because of the NEA, not because of them personally. It is the NEA that is abusing them.
If kids are being socially promoted that is not the teachers that is the school board. Thus the school board is abusing the teachers.
If the kids are being taught to wear condoms it is not because of the teachers it is because of the State Board of Education etc etc. So the State is causing the teachers to be abused.
The more we can do to help define the core of the problem and distinguish the teachers from the problem then the sooner the teachers will see the light and start to demand action and take action. How much more abuse do they want??
Few teachers will jeopardize their livelihood for the sake of speaking out on their political views. Yet, that is exactly what they face.
Schools will not force out teachers for being poor teachers, but they DO force out teachers for having the "wrong" political views.
I wonder how many teachers actually support the NEA? From what I have read, the district office reads that website. The moderator of that board is an activist/parent.
