DAD-BLAME IT!

Lieutenant-governor hopeful Dennis Mehiel, campaigning yesterday with Carl McCall, has admitted fathering two out-of-wedlock kids, by two women, while married.

August 26, 2002 -- ALBANY - Carl McCall's running mate for lieutenant governor, Dennis Mehiel, admitted yesterday that he fathered two out-of-wedlock children, with two different women, while married to his first wife.

Andrew "The Sopranos" Cuomo has a machine in working order. The timing and content is impeccable.

Yout point is well taken but consider timing and content.

Two other points: Who is this guy's wife? Is she a lot younger? Did she work for the guy? If so, gee, who does this sound like? Where's NOW when you need'em?

And secondly, the Dems in FL are Bashing Jeb Bush's CPS nominee, whose only crime, as far as I can tell, is to be a God-fearing man who approves of spanking?

So let me see if I get this straight: A guy who screws around on his wife and has two kids out of wedlock, who won't admit to the fact until he's caught, is A-OK with the Dems. But a God-fearing guy who spanked is his kids occasionally is Satan incarnate.

The NY Daily News story is interesting:

The Democratic race for governor was rocked yesterday when Carl McCall's running mate volunteered that he fathered two children with different women while still married to his first wife. Lieutenant governor candidate Dennis Mehiel said he was revealing the out-of-wedlock offspring to head off "distasteful" leaks to the press about them from opponent Andrew Cuomo's camp.

"I have absolutely not one shred of doubt where this story came from," said Mehiel, 60, a multimillionaire businessman from Westchester County. ....

Mehiel said that during the past few months, Cuomo and several associates of the former cabinet member "have suggested to me that I would be the subject of negative attacks if I did not abandon my support for Carl McCall." Mehiel declined to identify what Cuomo associates had talked to him about possible negative attacks.

The candidate also said he could not recall the specifics of such conversations.

Mehiel's campaign manager, Maureen Kane, said she got word of an impending story on her boss' out-of-wedlock kids directly from the Cuomo side. full story

Like I said, this choice says more about McCall than it does Mehiel.

Boyhowdy, the temptation to say it's genetic is almost overpowering.

But I have convinced myself that behavior so prevalent can be, and probably is, cultural. One of the many perquisites of the "macho" image among that class.

On second thought, maybe it is genetic, and not confined to any one race (cf. Neal Boortz' "All men are pigs"). Just that some subcultures keep it in check and others sneakily glorify it.

Genetic my gluteus maximi. People have brains. When you think about it, adultery should be one of the harder sins to commit. There is a lot of time to change your mind before you engage in it. It's not like swearing. But don't you just love the fact that the Dems are trotting out this guy as someone worthy to be a Lt. Gov. while they simultaneously bash J.B.'s nominee for being a Christian who spanked his kids.

Just so everyone's clear on this, McCall is the black guy. No one's accused him of excessive fathering.

It's his white running mate, Mehiel, who's been busy procreating with women not his wife. Actually, he eventually married the mother of illegitimate child #2, after his first wife (and mother of his first five kids) divorced him.
